Grumble Pai: FCC boss told by House Dems to try the novel concept of putting US folks first, big biz second

'"It’s Oversight Time" – the congressman announced he would reintroduce a bill [PDF] that would direct the FCC to do more about robocalls and given consumers the right to stop calls and require incoming calls to have caller ID before they are routed to their phones.'

These democrats are so out of touch! An example: the other day I received a call. When I answered the call I was surprised because the call I was receiving was from myself. That is correct. It was my own number calling me but when I answered it was a telemarketer with the person speaking in Spanish or one of the similar languages. Now I don't speak Spanish nor understand it except a very few words.

Here is the part that these democrats don't understand. I ask my son who has been a network administrator for nearly 2 decades about how my number could call me when I had my phone with me. Here is what he said. These marketers buy list of numbers for the area they are targeting. The then use that number as a display for the call. He also said that they can make any number appear to be making the call that they want to. It has nothing to do with the phone company, in fact the phone company don't know any thing about what number is being used. Another example: After receiving one of these calls I decided to check it out so I called the number displayed on my phone. I got a "this number is not in service" answer.

UK white hats blacklisted by Cisco Talos after smart security code stumbles

Why are you using racists terms in your titles?

UK white hats blacklisted by Cisco . . .

White meaning good and Black meaning bad. As a master of the English language surely better terms that are neutral can be found.

What a meth: Woman held for 3 months after cops mistake candy floss for hard drugs

Re: The American "justice" system...

I think that I would rather be in the hands of the US justice system than any other justice system. Here at least you don't have to testify against your self.

Get rich quick?

This is a chance for that woman to get a $1,000,000 tax free which she should but in a hidden account for the next time the police stop her with candy in a paper bag which the police think are drugs. It will happen again because the police of any state never learns so they will do it again.

Let's get ethical, says Salesforce as revenues rocket 27% – thanks in part to US Border Patrol

This is what should happen to companies such as Salesforce.

Any company in the US that is supplying any abusive agency of the US government with software or any other services should be forced into bankruptcy and the management should be hounded out of the country. There are many places that would give them a new home other than the US and they should be forced into refugee status themselves to see what it is like.

This case should be of interests to not only American citizens but also to the citizens of western Europe. This merger is the first of many other mergers which will see just a few mega corporations controlling every facet of our lives. Information is the lifeblood of then modern world and these mega corporations will control all the information. But these mega corporations will also control other things such as foods, transportation and every other aspect of our lives. By controlling the information they will only allow the information get out that will they want to get out and that informs only the thing that they want to be know, false or true will matter less than get the information out that they want to further their won aims.

This will also extend to the politics. If a politician who is opposed to these mega corporations, especially in media, tries to get out his or her position on a matter just far do you think that will go? Not very far. Also this will limit persons ability to work and earn a living if they oppose these corps. IN other words each person would be a slave to the mega corps allow to live as long as they toe the line that these mega corps espews.

Readers take this to heart if this continues we all will be just automatons jumping to the strings that these corporations pull

So when can you get in the first self-driving car? GM says 2019. Mobileye says 2021. Waymo says 2018 – yes, this year

Yes more accurate maps will be needed and Google with its navigation and trip mapping app is currently doing that very thing. As a car with the app drives Google gets updates on the position of the car. Then Google can use that data to map the roads very accurately. Incidentally it is used to reroute the driver if there are traffic blocks or slowdown on the selected route all to get to your destination in the least time.

OMG! OIG to audit SLS: NASA probed over big rocket project's big budgets, big delays

The government has spent billions and long years to develop the SLS and is not yet ready to launch. Now SpaceX with very little money has already launched a missile with greater lift capacity than SLS and at a much lower cost. But the SLS will not be ready for a couple more years. There should be an investigation and maybe some heads should also role.

Biker nerfed by robo Chevy in San Francisco now lobs sueball at GM

Here in America most everyone is on the lookout how to make a buck the easy way. If the driver sues GM he is hoping that GM would rather settle out of court for a few thousands of dollars rather than the cost of many times that amount for them to take it to court even if they win. So take this with a grain of salt it will make this crap taste better.

New battery boffinry could 'triple range' of electric vehicles

Re: How many battery "breakthroughs" is that this year?

There has been many improvements over the last 5, 10 and 15 years some of them happened before the internet was much more than a gleam in the eye of its its inventor (Howard Deene as he claims). So this claim may not reach the market as it has been reported but could (will?) result in improvements that will become a product. So don't condemn these claims but encourage them for some will make a BIG difference

Fleeing Aussie burglar shot in arse with bow and arrow

Standing naked trying to defend ones property.

It sounds like the Aussies are bound and determined to make their citizens defenseless unable to protect what they have earned. So why earn anything become one else will just take it and if you try do protect what is yours you will face worse punishment that the criminal. Australia has large areas that if one called the police it would be much to late by the time they got there to do any good. and the likelihood of catching the criminal is quite low but if one tries to protect ones own and the criminal is injured or killed look out! You will get worse than the criminal if he was ever caught.

Five reasons why the Google tax deal is imploding

A solution to not only the tax problem but also for the state budget also. What would happen to the companies that don't pay their taxes if that company suddenly become a state owned? I think after a couple of companies became state owned the rest of the companies would be a little more reasonable, and with the profits from those companies would help the budget while not destroying the ability of the company to do its business.

Trump's new thought bubble: Make Apple manufacture in the USA

Mr. Trump, You may try to make Apple build its products here in the US but what Apple will do is just move its company to China. So in the end the US will loose everything and China will be the one who reaps the benefits.

Mr Trump I think that you will have a hard time getting that negotiated.

Brussels paws Android map apps to see if they displace Euro rivals – report

Unless the EU is interested in promoting antiquated technology they should be investigating their companies instead. Now I am kind of old fashion and don't keep up the latest gadgets and I use a Garmin. My son has a modern smart phone and uses google to navigate. His can update minute by minute as needed to reflect the traffic conditions whereas my Garmin does not. When I do get a new smart phone I will no longer need the Garmin (Tom Tom, etc) for the phone will do everything the gps does and much more.

If the EU gps companies ei Tom Tom etc don't want to lose business let them move into the modern world and produce a better product, one that is better than the others out there and it will have users.

You want the poor to have more money? Well, doh! Splash the cash

Vacation time!

Why should I work my a** of to earn more money to have MY money taken away from by force and given to another? So when they do this it will be VACATION TIME!!!.

I have another suggestion to increase the income for the POOR. For any person who is physically and or mentally fit for that person to receive any unearned entitlements (welfare) that person would have to spend 8 hours a day at some assigned task. That would be based on what that person can do even if that is only sitting in a chair in some autormum without their e-gadgets. There will always be trash to be picked up on public property, or some other menial job that don't take much thought power. Now if a person is truly disabled such as needing 24/7 care then as as long as they are under that 24/7 care they would be exempted from the work requirement. If the person needs child care that would be provided, in fact that could the job for some of the ones getting the unearned entitlements. If nothing else can be found the person would have set in a chair with no entertainment for the time required with only the breaks that people working in the private industry is required to get. Fore some who want to learn to earn they could be taking classes and as long as they passed the classes they could get paid for that instead of the made work. However after the training they would then have to get a job or be given one of the menial jobs.

If this was adopted I would bet that there would be a sudden drop in those who applied for the income and get out and find a job where they can earn more money.

Burn all the coal, oil – No danger of sea level rise this century from Antarctic ice melt

Smart scientist.

Finally a scientist who should know what he is saying about the rise of the oceans makes sense. Some months ago I calculated the sea rise by finding the volume of ice in the Arctic and The Antarctic and Greenland. Then I took this volume of ice and spread it over the surface are of the seas. I used the formula one volume of ice = one volume of water which it is not the same. I also considered the seas were in a vertical walled container which it is not. The volume of the three ice masses would raise the seas only about 600 to 800 millimeters under these conditions. (I don't remember the exact numbers). However since one volume of ice = only 0.931 volumes of water and as the sea rises so does the surface area. So it is very obvious that the sea rise would be much less.

Hurrah! Windfarms produce whopping one per cent of EU energy

This is a sad "I told you so"

When this CO2 business started several years ago I stated at that time that wind and solar would not be economical substitute for carbon based energy. I said also that nuclear is the best source for producing electric energy. If other than uranium was used it would also be safer without the chance of a runaway reaction.

It is time to think nuclear agan.

'Right to be forgotten' festers as ICO and Google come to blows

Why should Google be the final arbitrator on what should be delisted? That job should be the prerogative of the ECJ or another governmental office. The ECJ should be the one who receives the request, processes the request and then issues the order to the search engine companies the listing that should be delisted. That would give the ECJ a more proactive role in this situation and take out of the hands of the search engine companies if the they failed to following the orders.

Anti-gay Indiana starts backtracking on hated law after tech pressure

Re: Politics. politics....and duplicity

I suggest we kill the troglodytes. . . .

Well, since it is illegal to kill (people) I suggest that we start using the laws and power of the state to force these troglodytes to become like the rest of us. One way that can be accomplished is to use the laws to force people respect the rights of the LGBT and not be able to discriminate against them even if ones religious belief say it is wrong. Religious right are find as long as they don't interfere with modern lifestyles.

'Giving geo-engineering to this US govt is like giving a child a loaded gun'

Who else can you trust?

The climate is changing whether we want it to or not. With all that Obama has done to improve the US economy and the positive results that his efforts have had who else would or could one trust? Would or could trust those conservatives, climate deniers who put the world in the economic problems that it is just now coming out of? Give Obama and other like minded world leaders the authority (and budget) to do what needs to be done.

California Uber Alles: Google wants to become the World Privacy Court

If the ECJ would be the one who sends the delist orders to Google and other search engines the links that is to be forgotten then Google COULD not become the privacy court.

Google mouthpieces: 'Right to be Forgotten' should not apply on google.com

It seems that the ECJ wants its cake and to be able to eat it at the same time. Google should should push that all delisting orders (not requests) should come from the ECJ and not from a request by the person(s) being delisted. It should not be Google (or any other search engine) to make the decision to delist or not. That should be an order that comes from a LEGAL authority and not the company who is to carry out the delisting. Then the search engine(s) would be required to carry out the order as a minimum not as a maximum.

But then the ECJ would be the one who would catch the fallout instead of the search engine(s) who do the delisting and I don't think that the ECJ wants to take the heat for any screw up (as the Spanish did). So Google and other search engines should continue to do as Google did in Spain and when they get a delisting request then honor that request to the nth degree.

EU Google-bashing is making us look really bad, say Google bashers

Watch out what you wish for because you may get it.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the EU found that there is no longer any Google? They may get that.

But on the EU's right to be forgotten. If the EU is going enforce the "Right to be forgotten" then is should be the court which informs the search engines what data is to be for gotten and if it does not come from the court the search engines should not obey the request. Of the searcher engines should forget all search results even the ones the police may need if the request comes from the individual and the search engine companies are required to honor it.

Hawkins is correct if

Hawkins may very well be correct if his views on how humanity came into being which is evolution. In evolution life is continuing to evolve and it dose not matter what causes that evolution. In this case it is being caused by humanity and its scientific advancement. So it is logical that one day in the evolution of man that man would make a machine that becomes sentient. Of course man will continue to improve that machine until it will be able to do what man does, reproduce. When that happens then the need for man becomes less important, even unto the point that the cost of keeping humans vs the benefits of humans reaches becomes negative. When that happens then humans will start dying off and soon will not be any more.

Mystery Russian satellite: orbital weapon? Sat gobbler? What?

ET is spying on us.

The object is not claimed by any power on earth so maybe it is a spy satellite placed in orbit by some extraterrestrial power to determine it an invasion would be successful.

'You have no right to see me naked!' Suddenly, everyone wakes up at the Google-EU face-off

It should be that unless Google receives a take down from the ECJ Google should remove all references of he person requesting the take down from ALL search results form now on or none. The reasoning is that it should not be Google making the judgement call on which to take down or not, that should come form the ECJ. So all take down request would have to go through the ECJ which would issue the take down order to Google and if Google did not adhere to the order then it would be fined according to a predetermined scale.

Now when that happens Google will not be the judge and jury on each of these take down orders.

Now if the ECJ decides that it will not be the clearing house for the take down orders then when Google gets a take down order it should decide to eliminate all search results of the person or company who requested the take down order and even the state would then have to get a court order to revel the results.

AMD pays new CEO $150K LESS than her male predecessor

Now just what is the work experience of the two? Now if the man had more experience, say, 5 or 10 or even 15 years in management and the woman has just moved into management the difference in pay is probable less than if it had been a man with the same experience as the woman had been appointed as CEO.

Now when the women come up with a true gender discrimination then tell us so we can do something about it. But stop, please, reporting these feminist complaints that have no bases.

Antarctic ice at all time high: We have more to learn, says boffin

Re: Antactica is melting too

Here is another conundrum. As the lower salinity of the Antactica water freezes the salt is returned to the sea which will in turn raise the salinity of the sea which would lower the freezing point.

Italy's High Court orders HP to refund punter for putting Windows on PC

What are Apple buyers going to do.

Well at least with an HP pc one has a choice but with Apple there is NO CHOICE. What is the courts going to do with that one? Are they going to require Apple to allow other operating system on it. How about are they going to allow someone to put an Apple OS on a different computer Apple DOES NOT ALLOW either one of these options.

Climate: 'An excuse for tax hikes', scientists 'don't know what they're talking about'

Re: More Education Is Needed

AceRimmer, the problem with your statement the taxes will not go to fund education. Politicians are notorious for their taxing to fund their pet projects most of which is designed to get themselves reelected.

I have heard and used this statement many times, "Follow the Money". If one follows the money it will tell who is supporting (in some cases opposing) something. Most politicians if they were assured it could not be traced back to them would continue to increase taxes until everybody had to depend upon the government for every aspect of their life.

Now as far as the warning of the climate. The scientist who study history says that the earth has warmed/cooled (not necessarily in that order) many times even to the extent that ice covered much of the northern hemisphere. Most of these cycles happened before humanity was high enough to have much effect either way. But today it is humanity that is the cause of climate change (global warming) weather humanity is or not because now the politicians can use this claim to increase the taxes (to help reduce the cause of the global warming). These taxes are not used to reduce the causes to global warming but fund their pet projects.

Now that Scotland has its own .scout extension maybe Scotland should also drop the use of English and readopt Scottish as the official language. That would prepare the people for Independence.

Girl gamers sexism row: Top e-sports federation finds reverse gear

Can women hack it?

Open to all and open to females. Who can say what the gender of the player is? That is unless the players are all in the same location. But I would dare say that the females played in the all male games when they still existed. It would be much more satisfying for the female(s) to beat a male and also be more humiliating for the male.

But the PC politics will never reach the goal that they claim to want (if it is equality that want) when the carve out a niche for a specific group. If there is a female only then it is telling the females that they cannot compete with the males and have to be given an easier goal to reach.

But equality has never been the goal of any of the PC politicians.

When PR backfires: Google 'forgets' BBC TV man's banker blog post

"The Court of Justice of the European Union said in its original ruling that courts will ultimately arbitrate on each request . . .

Google is between a rock and a hard spot. If the EU wants to correct this then all request should be made to the court then when a ruling is made on that request it would be sent to Google to enact. But as it is now Google should eliminate ALL search results for any person that request a removal of a search result. Then the court can tell Google to restore the search results except the ones that should be eliminated.

In other words Google should not be able to receive a request from an individual to drop search results. All request should come form the court. If Google now blocks search results now it should not be responsible nor to determine which search results to include and which to exclude nor liable for missing the mark.

Scientists warn of FOUR-FOOT sea level rise from GLACIER melt

Upon reading this I did a little internet research to find what the volume of Greenland and the polar icecaps and and the surface area of the oceans. I divided the volume of the three icecaps, Antarctica , Arctic and Greenland, by the surface area of the oceans. The answer turned out to be less than one meter. Now that was the total volume of the three icecaps not just sections of only one. See below.

Scientists at NASA and the University of California, Irvine have concluded that the glaciers of West Antarctica are now in terminal decline and the resultant ice loss could raise global sea levels by up to four feet over the next few centuries. "The collapse of this sector of West Antarctica appears to be unstoppable," said UC …

Now I know why they call it climate change. They cannot make up their mind what the result is going to be.

Ouch... right in the Androids! Google hit by another antitrust sueball

Silviu C. Your comment is so correct!. Hopefully the courts will see through this ruse and slap down these lawyers. Their only purpose is to collect $Millions at the expense of Google and the people they claim to represent.

Imprisoned Norwegian mass murderer says PlayStation 2 is 'KILLING HIM'

Give him the opportunity!

Instead of upgrading to PS3 they should take the PS2 and let him have nothing for a while. Why should a killer dictate to the prison? If he does starve himself to death it would be his choice and he would have to do so with the food in his cell though.

True fact: Britain is losing its brains

Fukushima fearmongers: It's your fault Japan dumped CO2 targets

It is an engeneering problem not a nuclear problem.

Since the Fukushima crisis there have been many knee jerk reactions. People did not stop to evaluate what happened. From what I have read it was not the failure of the reactors nor the safety equipment that caused the melt down but the wall of water that knocked out the safety equipment that created the problem. Here is where it become an engineering problem, the site for the reactor was not well picked out. But it should be used as a learning experience. Maybe the engineers, at first, did not think of the dangers of the site. They do now and site selection should be a much higher priority now.

The world is going to need nuclear power for a long time but may one day be able to be phased out. In the mean time nuclear power should be used but where there is not going to be tsunami will be able over flow it. This should not be a problem in Europe where they are phasing out nuclear power even though the price of the energy is quite high and looks to go even higher with the phaseout. This is coupled with the phase out of coal generators also and the shutdown of natural gas generators to a stand by status. To be there to take up the slack when the green energy fails or falls short. This in itself will be done at a very high cost and may even increase the CO2 emissions
