Snowden journalist's partner gave Brit spooks passwords to seized files

FunkyEric

Simples

Get someone else to encrypt the data and not tell you the password until you are safely at your destination. They can't get you to give them something that you don't have. Carrying a signed affidavit confirming that you do not know the password might help. But they'd probably put you in jail anyway.

Phones don't talk to me about phones

I bought my daughter a phone for her 7th birthday so I could keep in touch with her. Seemed like a good plan, my ex-wife was complaining about how I should keep in touch with my daughter. Nothing fancy, just a nice simple pink girly phone she could text and call me and the rest of her relatives she doesn't get to see since the divorce. But my ex deemed it "age unsuitable" and confiscated it. Then to *really* take the piss she gave it back to her when I took her away on holiday at half term so she could stay in touch with her and then re-confiscated it after the holiday.

Well I think they're cool and want one!

Or should I just wait until the implantable version comes out? ;-) Science Fiction becomes science fact before our very eyes. So what if they monitor where I am and what I do on the web, this happens anyway, I carry a mobile phone around with me and use Google to search for stuff. I just think the idea of a computer that you wear that you talk to is just amazingly cool.

WTF?

Errrrrrrrrrrr

Surely if they haven't got an internet connection they can go to the library and use teh free ones there that we are already providing for those who do not possess either a computer or an internet connection. In these supposed times of austerity subsidising internet access for unemployed people strikes me as a waste of national debt money. Stop looking for ways to be spending fecking money we haven't got you tossers!

Eyes in the sky: UK.gov's CCTV code to IGNORE MILLIONS of cameras

FunkyEric
Pint

It's a dilemma isn't it?

We like our privacy, but when I got mugged in a subway in Birmingham at 3am and left unconscious in the cold in the middle of winter without a coat ('cos he took that) it was rather useful that it was all seen on CCTV and so they sent an ambulance to pick me up and take me to hospital where I woke up many hours later. Without that CCTV I could have died out there.

I think the unfortunate thing with these proposals is that they are un-enforceable and so rather pointless. We have to accept that CCTV is a fact of life now, we can't un-invent it and we're extremely unlikely to ban it. So we really ought to be providing a suitable statutory regulatory framework with teeth. But the politicians have no vested interest in that happening so it won't.

Humans becoming steadily STUPIDER, says brainiac boffin

FunkyEric

Just another point...

We used to have lots of wars to kill off the stupid people younger. Now they just sit in their council estates / trailer parks / etc getting paid to do nothing except breed more stupid people. No wonder it's getting increasingly hard for the working classes to support them. Admittedly there are some stupid people in the working classes, because someone has to do the dull mudane, smelly jobs, but clearly we have too many of them at the moment. Losing a few million of them here and there wouldn't be a great loss to humanity. However our society frowns on this kind of thinking because then there wouldn't be enough people left to buy all the shit that it produces making "money" to keep the clever people happy. All rather counter-productive really.
