Hyper-converged top-of-the-pops list is out: Guess who hasn't crushed it?

VSAN?

How is VSAN in the same category as all these other products? VSAN is just SDS, not hyperconvergence. You need VSAN as a component for VxRail, but in and of itself it isn't HCI.

Elderly? Disabled? You clearly need a .38" Palm Pistol

Old news

This all happened in 2008, just Google it. Where do you guys get your "breaking" news?

Earth may be headed into a mini Ice Age within a decade

RTFA

From TFA:

In response to news inquiries and stories, Dr. Frank Hill issued a follow-up statement:

"We are NOT predicting a mini-ice age. We are predicting the behavior of the solar cycle. In my opinion, it is a huge leap from that to an abrupt global cooling, since the connections between solar activity and climate are still very poorly understood. My understanding is that current calculations suggest only a 0.3 degree C decrease from a Maunder-like minimum, too small for an ice age. It is unfortunate that the global warming/cooling studies have become so politically polarizing."

Jeez. Talk about knee-jerk reactions, hundreds of comments later.

Dell's dedupe story still unfolding

Chris, do you work for balesio? That would be quite relevant to know. I don't work for any storage vendor; I am the storage architect for an ISV in the Medical Informatics space.

I'm setting up my own tests to verify vendor claims that they can reduce the size of compressed files. I'll believe it when I see it.

Medical Images

Unless stored as raw DICOM, which would be rare, PACS images are already compressed, either using lossless or lossy algorithms. I would be surprised if Ocarina could take a compressed data stream and achieve any sort of additional compression/deduplication. These images are all unique so there is no hope to get any file dedupe as one would in a standard office environment with email attachments and such.
