The Life and Times of Lester Haines

Retro Man

Have just become aware of Lesters sad demise. (Where have I been these last 6 months !!).

Well, when Lester past a comment or wrote an article, it must have been with no small amount of authority. From Dramatic Arts, to Woodworking, languages, pop groups and special projects, to name but a few of the things he turned is hand to. So, if he passed comment, the chances are he'd already been there, done that and got the T-shirt.

That obit has done him proud, nicely done.

For better or worse, richer or poorer, people like Lester make the world a more interesting and fun place to be. We exchanged a few emails about LOHAN last year and the year before. He never missed a reply, but I'm going to miss him.

Re: I would go if there was an opportunity to see the launch!

Oh I don't know.

For us back home in the lands of the floods, this would make a nice little break in the run up to Autumn. The weather looks incredible and the prices of hotels/motels in Las Cruces are equally good.

Just have to find a cheap transatlantic carrier. Any chance of getting on the El Reg Charter flight ?

Nearly there! LOHAN Kickstarter pot o'gold breaks £29,000

Dear Reg part deux

Kickstarter has not quite got the mix of merchandise I need (stickers, tee-shirts, mug, tankard - we don't need no stinkin' badges !). I thought of going back and ordering them separately (I've got the mug/t-shirt pledge thingy) but Kickstarter will only allow one pledge . . . . . . .

Is Vulture Central going to be opening a stall at Sheppards Bush market any time soon ?

Thumb Up

Outstanding atmospheric endearment

Watched that video through twice. On coming to the end of the 2nd rendition, I was thinking, now which government department did my taxes go to to for that and which advertising behemoth did that escapade ?

Quick reality check - El-Reg - all is right with the world !

I just love it when when backyard tinkering, care, some engineering know-how, genuine intuition and a fair amount of common sense, fun and beer make for a memorable experience, which beat the big boys hands down.

A really interesting project with great feedback - Well done to all involved - much appreciated.

(subject line has nothing to do with the content of the post - just an attention [de]grabber).

@Anonymous Coward ""Having been a motorcycle police officer . . . .

How can you be causing queues and bunching at 60mph ??? (Assuming you are in the LHL on a motorway or on a single lane road)

Better get all those overtaking Lorries doing 56.5mph in the middle lane off the motorways then !

Raspberry Pi ship date slips

Really ?

From where I'm looking the base board (which gives USB, etherenet, dispaly i/o) starts at ~4 times the cost of the pi.

""Perhaps you should actually research what underlying changes were made before laughing that XP could inherently support modern tech. It fails on many counts. Just try loading SATA drivers for WinXP without a floppy or slipstreaming the ISO""

Loaded SATA drivers on MANY XP SP3 machines with no floppy or slipstreaming of the ISO required.

Perhaps a little more research is needed . . . . .
