Re: Oh the Irony

Yeah McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator had options to restrict the use of USB in the AV client.

This was over 10 years ago as well, its one of the few bits of McAfee software at the time I didn't actually have any issues with (Policy setup was very easy, it very easy to setup specific servers to distribute anti virus signatures and updates, always wondered at the time why the consumer versions of their AV were so bloated and how McAfee could suddenly claim we needed a new module to increase the cost by 25% each year)

Windows CE - Orange SPV C500

Edit: It does actually state Windows Mobile CE 2003 on Wikipedia, I didn't think Windows Mobile had a start menu. Obviously I didn't remember this correctly.

Captain Scarlet

Re: Yet another....

I liked Windows CE but it just wasn't designed to be a phone, I had an Orange branded Windows CE phone and it was far to clunky. The start menu just wasn't usable, so everything ended up on the tiny desktop.

Re: SE no longer supported end of 2019

What android phone have you got (I assume it has Google services but obviously might not)?

Captain Scarlet

Re: SE no longer supported end of 2019

Well yes but the Google store still apply its own updates for software such as the store, browser, etc...

So although a manufacturer has dropped the handset there is still some form of updates.

I don't honestly know if its the same for Apple, however they do normally support their handsets far longer (4-5 years, its the only thing I can't really fault them on. Its infuriating when items such as my work Blackberry DTEK stopped receiving manufacturer updates after I had it from new at 9 months).

I woudln't be surprised, the amount of times HP "smart buttons" have caused a user to switch their display to external only is depressing.

Now with recent models they are on the Fx keys and you have to press fn to press an F key >_< (So I stab the sleep button over and over the press F12 to PXE boot, which is annyng as older models the sleep button was fn + F1 >_<)

I thought the handsets basically become useless if the currently assigned Apple ID user doesn't wipe the device which requires signing into their Apple ID (No good if a member of staff suddenly leaves and you get it sent in a hopefully padded envelope)?

I assume your installing Windows on top of Linux comment is due to Windows installer overwriting all Linux's partitions (Where as most Linux distros will do their best to keep Windows and even add an entry in grub)?

I am a bit miffed, only file system issues I've had is when I wear out SD Cards in my Raspberry Pi's or in one occassion where cooling failed at a DC with my web server and it promptly cooked the HD. Neither the file systems fault.
