They will delete it completely.... you can either "deactivate" or "delete" you are in current state of "deactivated" its invisible to all but FB computers; were you to decide to reactivate it you would find it exactly as you left it, if you see what I mean. If you delete it , its gone. Well that's what they say anyway.

I lived under the flight path into heathrow when I was growing up I loved watching all the aircraft following the line of the A4 into the airport, Jumbo's used to feel so much lower than everything else because of their size.

I'd never flownon a jumbo until a trip to Chicago about 15 years ago and I've not been on one since. I did how ever get to play a casualty and slide down the emergency chute while taking part in an emergency drill at Heathrow.

"In my experience having children didn't make me a special person who is more important than others and nor did it stop my legs from working."

It's got more to do with the size of the spaces. I'm quite happy for the P&C spaces to have the room to swing those huge 4x4 doors wide open with gay abandon as the littleuns inside are wont to do; that way there is no danger to my car's bodywork.

And of course I know you're superhuman and it doesn't apply to you and yours but the children of lesser mortals have been known to "slip the leash" as it were and simply throw their arms and legs about without due regard to their surroundings, having the P&C spaces gives me an opportunity to locate the likelihood of finding myself with a new bonnet ornament and behave appropriately with ease.

You know, speaking as someone that has no children that is.

Anyone using M-DISC to archive snaps?

IsJustabloke
Boffin

My back up regimen....

As a keen amateur 'tog I share your pain my solution is thus....

camera-> PC -> NAS (Mirrored discs) -> BluRay Discs -> Off site

I create bluray images and then burn them to actual discs, usually 2 copies. One set lives at my mums house and one set lives at a mates house. They get a new disc every month. It takes a little time once a month to create/burn/distribute but I guess its worth it other wise I wouldn't.

And No I have no experience of m-disc

VW floats catalytic converter as fix for fibbing diesels

IsJustabloke

Re: Why did I buy a diesel ?

2) Better power per litre leads to phenomenal fuel economy. 44mpg for mixed use for a 1.6 engine would be impossible for a petrol

TBF modern petrol engines are almost up there

My last car had a 1.2 ltr engine and that managed 48MPG, My current car is a 1.4 turbo and it manages 39 mpg on average...I could probably improve that by changing my driving style significantly. itts also got 170 BHP and 0-60 of around 6 secs but I rarely drive it like I stole it because then the MPG can get down to single figures but its certainly fun to do occasionally :D

Re: Maybe smartwatches are just ahead of their time?

"So what do I need a watch for?"

A friend of mine has a watch obsession... he's always showing me pictures of watches, "Isn't it pretty?!?! Such a pretty watch! " (they always look the same to me) telling me how this one is waterproof down to 250,mtrs!!!!! I always ask if he's taken up scuba diving.... "Look at this one!" he'll enthuse pilots use these... or this one! it costs several thousand pounds and will *never* lose value or time.

I show him my fitbit and ask what those watches do that my fitbit doesn't?

of course the real irony is that he is *never* on time for anything. ever.

I really don't get the whole "shut yor mouf and look at my watch!" mentatlity

The Register's entirely serious New Year's resolutions for 2016

IsJustabloke
Coat

Well that explains that then....

For a long time... at least 7 or 8 years... a visit to The Register was a daily event in my working life but I find that I can go days without visiting now because its full of the same stuff that all the other sites are.

I found I missed the distinctly British feel/humour to the place. Its become a generic / US feeling place these days. shame.

Still if the powers that be feel the need to change *shrug* and at least you've explained your reasoning, I guess its working for you otherwise you wouldn't have legitimized it with an announcement some two months after the changes had been made.

I'll still dip in and out but I expect there will be fewer and fewer visits because I rarely find 1 article per visit to read these days.

Good luck!

I think its time to stop treating Dr who as "High Art" it isn't, it never was and it never will be. The two things that make it mostly unwatchable for me these days.

1) The OTT and in your face PCness of the show
