Revenge pornography ban tramples free speech, law tossed out – where else but Texas!

Reasonable expectation of privacy

That's been an established precedent in the U.S. Even if it's conveniently forgotten by some who think there is no such thing as "reasonable" or "expectation of privacy" anymore.

It also seems to hold up in court when someone with lots of money doesn't want their image used.

Too bad

It would have been the ideal payload to revenue ratio. Figuring one ounce getting about 2 or 3 hundred dollars.

Jerks need not apply

I applaud no brilliant jerks, but they also are wanting everyone to be a star. I don't know if you can have it both ways. But perhaps with a culture of maturity you could.

Personally I would settle for no jerks brilliant or otherwise, but I'm the type who hopes to just do a decent job with out eff'ing up.

pick one

1. Of course we don't know this, that's why we're visiting a web site.

2. No one here can ever agree on a technical point, that's why they spend so much time belittling each other.

Real soon now

Yes that solution is on the horizon. Real Soon Now a software will be out that is built with Security From The Ground Up (SFTG). Plus at the same time the last bug will be found by paying for guys to find the Final Bug (FB).

In this not too distant future it will simply mean checking the box that asks the user if s/he desires Secure or Unsecure. This will also mean an end to the truckloads of security upgrades and there will no longer be a need for so many programmers. Oh wait a tick, I think I see a problem here . . .

Maybe not safer but it is convenient

I knew someone who would drive a stick while smoking, drinking coffee all the while talking on the phone. I understand you are still distracted, but having an extra hand is convenient. Granted you might not think its needed, but with all the other features they claim it’s amazing how many manufacturers can’t get it right.

EFF starting to look even more ineffectual

It's either that or start to wonder if the Clipper chip might not have been so bad after all. At least you could have had some sort of oversight.

I've seen it, it's rubbish

As HHG's Marvin would say. Good for him to admit it.

Meh

We're all doomed

So . . . despite endless discussions about what to do about security and no can do it well, no one is smart enough to do it well, no one's operating system is any good, no one gets paid enough to do it well and the dumbest person behind the keyboard can mess it up anyway in a blink of an eye.

Simply works

Well I'm sure someone will find some sort of security bug to rationalize killing it, but SS 9 runs just fine on my Win7 64bit box here. Well at least the parts of SmartSuite I've installed (didn't want 123, but no doubt it will run).

The cult of Approach is alive and well. As Ole says, simply because it works. It doesn't need constant "upgrades". Seems to be a novel concept nowadays.

Re: Eyes on the code? Not.

Oh, but isn't it "Built From the Ground Up" to be secure? Hmm, don't hear that claim either anymore.

Well will somebody please tell me what the hell is secure? Oh and don't tell me nothing. I don't want to hear nothing, I prefer endless debates on what is and isn't.

Just a guess here -- some lock the hard drive to annoy thieves. Problem then of course is lost passwords.
