Dropbox security fubar infuriates customers

Airhead

SpiderOak

Agree about the interfaces, but SpiderOak is actually half the price of Dropbox - $10/month per 100gb vs $20/month per 100gb for Dropbox.

jack

That's correct. Apple made this mistake with the original iPhone, and then corrected it with the 3G

SpiderOak

Surprised SpiderOak hasn't been mentioned thus far. It's cross platform (Windows/Linux/Mac and iOS/Android apps), reasonably cheap ($10 per 100GB), backs up any specified folders, and does folder syncing across machines. Main feature though is that all data is encrypted locally before it goes to the cloud, so (supposedly) cannot be accessed by SpiderOak themselves (or subpoena-brandishing US authorities).

Only downside is that the client software can be a bit clunky at times (probably due to all the encryption/decryption).

resolution

Can't see the horizontal resolution going past 1440, especially if they're making it thinner. More likely it'll be bumped up to 1280 or the 1366 as on the new 11" Macbook Air

Apple Facetime flings out frightening random calls

In the interests of fairness...

it should be noted that FaceTime on the Mac is still in beta (although granted, this sounds like a backend issue rather than one with the client app)

wake time

I picked one up as I was in America when they were launched the other week (thus saving me the Apple tax). The reviewer does it a bit of a disservice. Waking from sleep is as near instantaneous as makes no difference. By the time you've lifted the lid to 90 degrees, the desktop appears, with maybe another quarter of a second for the wireless symbol to indicate it's connected. Are you sure your Debian boxes aren't just switching the monitors back on, rather than waking from sleep?
