In the SMB space it's common to require cheap space & IOPS. One way to achieve this is to setup one big RAID 10 array with as many disks as you can. I run several of these setups and they work a treat.

Classic example: Dell R510, dual CPU, 64GB RAM, 12x2TB OBR10. Cheap, reliable & very capable of hosting a great many small VM's plus one large file system VM.

I agree with the AC just above - what kind of VM are you going to run on this thing that would actually be useful? Don't forget, you need to leave some of that 8GB of ram and Celeron for the NAS to get it's groove on with. I don't want to be mistaken, this is a sweet feature, I just don't see the utility in it.

Peace of mind at the end of a day

When I go home at night I know I've done a solid job, given the resources at my command. I've made suggestions, worked hard, applied the very best google-fu I can summon.

I used to care to the same degree you do Mr Potts. It can make you a more valuable, harder working employee - until you burn out or quit. Letting go of it all is hard, but my health is worth more than my wage. I'm glad you escaped that hell, but there are other ways out too.
