Incendiary MacBook blamed in house conflag inferno suit

MrCheese
Megaphone

It's news because...

Well, for starters I don't own any other appliancs that threaten to burn me alive if I don't unplug them and close second would be that if I did own a life-threatening appliance I wouldn't get a flat-out denial of the problem of very begrudging warranty replacement.

What makes and otherwise run of the mill product defect newsworthy is the Jobsian Mob's attitude towards taking responsiblility for the shoddy workmanship you pay the Crapple tax for.

LHC boffins turn lead into quarko-gluotic Big Bang incrediblo-stuff

Enough hyberbole

US orders data lock down in wake of Wikileaks release

MrCheese
FAIL

So...

Locking the gate after the horse has bolted eh? And trust the Merkins to try and classify as a terrorist anyone who makes them look foolish or dishonest.

I'm not sure I'm a particular fan of Assange but somone has to hold those in power to account and until someone comes up with a better system we'lll have to settle for Wikileaks.

Note to all western government, keep your noses clean and you won't haveto fear the next data dump now will ya!

Yeah but...

Dell kept buyers in dark over hardware problems, say docs

MrCheese
Thumb Down

Still doesn't excuse them

It's no excuse to bury the problem and screw your customers though, that's what law-dogs are for...any losses you incur you can reclaim from the dodgy supplier.

Dell are reowned for swithcing suppliers every 5 minutes to keep costs down and you'd have thought they could have done in this case too.

Start-up offers frozen-pea-finding app

It's going to be tricky

I'd like to see how this develops, if you'd ever worked in any retail environment you'd know that the supermarkets very deliberately make it impossible to find anything, it keeps you looking at more shelves for longer, for instance in an unnamed orange branded supermarket all brand name products are at the centre of the aisles meaning you have to pass the maximum number of alternative products to get to what you want.

Supermarkets even charge suppliers for preferential placement of their products in "high-traffic" parts of the store and I can't see this tidy little system being undermined with a mobile app; I think we'll see many retailers choosing not to share their data.

New RAF transport plane is 'Euro-w*nking makework project'

MrCheese
Megaphone

And there'd be nothing wrong with that

If it weren't for the fact that any pan-european project has three times it's value skimmed off the top for something that rolls of the production line obsolate.

And for an aircraft manufacturer to so massively misinterperate the costs of building it demonstrates that a hell of a lot of people in this project need a damn good sacking for sheer, mind-boggling idiocy.

NY youth makes $130k selling real(-ish) white iPhone 4s

MrCheese

Yep

Of course it's competitive if the die-dard Appple fanbois get to lord it up over eberyone else for having the latest and greaest Jobsian trinket, look at how many people have thrown half-decent-laptop money away on those oversized iPhones!

Capita says gov cuts hit hard

MrCheese

Boo-Fscking-Hoo

Seeing as it's trough divers like these who've been leeching money out of the Gov't for years you'll excuse me it I fetch my dancing shoes rather than the Kleenex.

I hope the cuts hit your profits..and hard (same goes for Fujitsu, HP/EDS et al)!

BlackBerry boss renews disdain for Steve Jobs

MrCheese
FAIL

Bwuhahahahahahaha!

Don't make me laugh, what planet are you from, what bridge did you come ourt from under? You're actually suggsting a phone/tablet using 3/4G to remote onto a VM to actually use as you would laptop!?!

With the UKs paltry excuse for a broadband infrastructure I sometimes struggle to RDP to machine in the office a few miles across town, let alone doing it down the end of a mobile connection on the fly...that's the beauty of having a laptop!

And for the money you're spending on the iPad you could have a damn good laptop, and don't give me the "too big and cumbersome angle" because there's not really much difference in carrying one or other apart from the delusion that the £400 couldn't have better spent!

MrCheese
Boffin

If I had to guess

The only reason cloud computing is being touted as The Next Big Thing is to justify these stupidly massive, ever expanding datacentres that everyone's building. Cloudc omputing is a means to prop up the server market thus counterbalancing widespread uptake of virtualisation and reduced spending as a result of the downturn.

Native apps on a fat client are best, it's easier to replace the client than it is your web connection, fact!

Google sacks Eric Schmidt memo leaker

MS freebie anti-virus scanner auto-downloads provoke more anger

MrCheese
Alert

Damn that was quick!

Here's a tip for fellow Windoze users; go and check Windows Update now, I had a look as I was going to install it myself and it looks like MS have removed it...presumably for fear of the current outcry!

MrCheese
WTF?

Optional Download

It's an optional download, not a critical one so no antitrust here, just AV vendors wringing their hands at the the thought of lost business.

MSE is actually rather good, low CPU overhead and virtually no excessive bloat, I'm about to replace AVG Free with it in fact.

Maybe the AV industry should work on things like cutting out the bloat and making definition updates cheaper (nay free?) if they want rest a little easier at night...

US opts out of carbon trading

MrCheese
Stop

Nothing to see here

So the USA are trying a different idea are they? Well I'm not going to critisise...noy yet at least. It could well be another demonstration of how far the current administration are willing ostracise the nation to satisfy their oil-lust, but then again can anyone say that cabon trading works? Has it lowered emissions or just made it more expensive for businesses to consume fuel at the same rate they always have (e.g. is a just a fat green tax?)

Until there's solid reliable evidence that carbon trading actually motivates people to converse energy rather than just pay more for it, I don't think it's fair to criticise them that much. This article seems to focus too much on the "next big lucrative market" rather than whether this deterrent really works.

PARIS nursing mother of all hangovers

MrCheese

Now that's some real engineer's talk

"Jose Manuel deserves a special mention for his balloon-handling technique, which involved calmly smoking a cigar with his free hand while noting: "Well, it's not hydrogen, is it?""

Awesome, just awesome :D I can't believe PARIS appears to have missed all obstacles on her descent, baffling!

First tube station to get Wi-Fi next week

MrCheese
FAIL

Tell me this...

What self-important twazzock needs WiFi on a tube platform!?! What's the longest wait for the average train down there? Three minutes, four? What the feck do you need four minutes more access for?? How many digital eggs does one really need to boil, surely this money would be far better in BT's case, on the 21CN upgrade and in the Tube's case, much needed critical infrastructure work?

Fail, epic, epic fail :(

Most smartphone users breach employers’ security, says survey

MrCheese

Oh I'm sorry...

The corporate network and it's connected devices are merely productivity tools, the ONLY reason you get to use them is to make you more productive, they'erenot your toys and the company has every right to decide hat you can and cannot do, if a restriction is in place that prevents you from doing your job then there's a change control system for that but you sound like some freetard who thinks he's above the rules and gets to the corporate network as if it's his own toy

MrCheese

If it's not a joke...

I'll bet good money he's a salesman or senior exec, they're ususally the one's who think they're above the law

Sadly our Governement is so incompetent you'd have to ask Europe for the correct legislation, it's only them who've held off the relentless march to the police state in recent years.
