Metrics house hails Apple DOMINANCE of X-Mas phone 'n' slab sales

johnnymotel

don't understand the problem...

"Another of my relatives (older generation) was recently bought an iPad to keep her in touch on e-mail. It's confusing the heck out of her because of the way that it automatically files stuff, in particular different locations for the pictures that she takes with the iPad and pictures that are sent by e-mail and detached."

I just saved a pic from an email and it appeared in my photo gallery alongside all the other photos. That seems quite logical to me.

GCHQ: We can't track crims any more thanks to Snowden

johnnymotel

come on GCHQ, which is it...

just the other day Ms May announced GCHQ would be helping in the fight against pedophiles, now they are saying they have lost all contact with crimes of all colour.

So which is it?

I have a measly MacMini to do most of my simple re-edits. It has a nice Fusion drive, that is pretty speedy. I also have several TB of storage attached to both USB and Thunderbolt. All the project files stay on the internal drive. I find most of the time it works nicely. If I had to upgrade, it would be to all Thunderbolt storage, then maybe a refurbed Mac Pro.

Apple: We're still GREAT pals with GT and we'd LOVE to team up again

You do know that sapphire glass for the iPhone 6 was just a RUMOUR. So half this article is based on RUMOUR and because of that I suspect the rest is sitting on quicksand.

Post-PC era? PAH! Apple says Macs OUTSOLD iPads in Q4

johnnymotel

best news yet

Apple just nicely handed me a nice bonus on my fully upgraded MM when I come to sell it and buy the MacPro.

Oh, in case you ask why sell the MM for an MP? Basically, I need lots of cores and fast ones for Compressor and I still use FCP7 which like cores to render out.

Apple hit by INSIDER LEAK: New iPad Mini 3, iPad Air 2 blabbed

johnnymotel

really?

What company gets deluged with 10's of millions of orders and pre-orders. I'm sure as Apple is Apple, they did their best to predict demand, but to complain of supply chain management when you have a potential order book of 10's of millions in just a few weeks and a current waiting time of 3/4 weeks just sounds like sour grapes.

Sapphire glass maker's woes caused by Apple relationship 'breakdown'

johnnymotel

blame it on Wall Street Journal

the whole iPhone 6 sapphire glass RUMOUR, was started by 'journalists' at the WSJ. Now the 6 doesn't have sapphire glass, these scurrilous 'journos' are backtracking fast. It's amazing that a trader can get jailed for a 10$ insider trade, but 'journos' like this, who can cause massive gyrations in stock prices get away scott free.

Re: ... in contrast to Amazon's approach

except that selling at 0% or a loss at Amazon hurts every other bookstore, physical or online, because they cannot afford to sell at a loss. Note Amazon has made a consistent loss as a company for sometime now and investors are getting itchy feet. A lot of people think Amazon is the best thing since sliced bread, until Amazon starts to flex it's monopolistic muscle and then we all suffer with higher prices.

johnnymotel

...and bookshops too.

I'd wager the damage in the USA is probably permanent, not sure about the rest. I think consumers and governments will rue the day they let Amazon develop such a strong monopoly in online sales. Although there are other costs to using eBay, at least I feel I support the smaller business. Maybe I am misguided about eBay.

sorry but....

I've bought Starbucks beans at Tescos in the past. They were on reduction from a mouth watering 3.99/227g down to 2.50/227g. Still expensive (my wife is Brazilian and we bring over suitcases full of best beans at very cheap prices), but fancied a change of bean.

Xiaomi launches Mi Pad fondleslablette – your (legal) move, Apple

Samsung: serial infringer

If you read up on Samsung, you will discover they have a long history of 'copying' their competitors products, getting sued by competitor, suing back at competitor and then dragging the whole legal stuff out in the courts for as long as possible.

If it hadn't been Apple, it would have been another phone company. Would the vitriol thrown against Apple be quite as strong if it was Nokia suing Samsung for patent infringement?

Apple's strong iPhone sales crush Wall Street moneymen's tepid expectations

johnnymotel

Why is the I-Pad losing market share where the competition is still so weak?

I think Mr Cook answered this one when he talked about the embedded market. I assume he was talking about Amazon Kindle and others like that. He said that Apple has no desire to enter a market like that. I am thinking that if the analysts segmented the tablet market properly, Apple would have a huge share in the top end segment.

WD My Cloud EX4 four-bay NAS

johnnymotel

OK, help wanted here

I have a very nice 5 bay storage box from Lian Li, it has a very basic PCB in the back to control the RAID. There is just enough space to fit a NUC board from Intel. But I'm stuck on how to connect up all five drives or maybe just four + one. I thought the NUC boards would make a good platform for FreeNas installation. The boards have a PCI Express connector, but cannot find any boards that would be similar to a regular PCI-E board with an SAS connector going to four drives.

Any help anyone? Or any other suggestions instead of the Intel boards?
