I believe it says 'buy from Amazon' not 'buy the whatever from Amazon'. There's a reason for that.

Netflix announces UK debut

Because DVDs and BDs are currently much, much more readily available than movie and TV streaming licences.

So there is much more content available to Netflix - or Lovefilm, or anyone else - to send out to subscribers on disc than there is to offer as streams.

The Radar only has 8GB; the iPhone 4S has 16GB minimum, and can be had with 32GB and 64GB on board.

Proof, here, that it is not.

'Ads in a paid magazine'... Er... you mean like the paper version, which has both a cover price and advertising.

This is far more common in publishing than the 'give it away for free, pay for it from ads' model.

Amazon Kindle 4

Tony Smith, Editor, Reg Hardware (Written by Reg staff)

Re: Why is the new Kindle $79 in US and £89 in UK?

The advert-presenting Kindle is $79 in the US.

The version that doesn't present ads is $109, which is £69, give or take. Add in 20 per cent VAT, and that's £83.

So yes, there's a six quid UK premium, but it's not exactly bank-breaking stuff.

Tony Smith, Editor, Reg Hardware (Written by Reg staff)

Re: So the best reader is...?

UK Kindles don't present ads. In the US you can pay a little extra for ad-less Kindles.

Re: Not for lack of capability

No, that's what developers can do with a very specific chip, from Nvidia.

There's way more Nvidia in that demo than Android.

And there's nothing to suggest other platforms won't be able to do the same when they get Kal-El Tegra-level processors.

Apple outs iPhone micro USB adaptor

Amazon to whup Apple rivals when Kindle Fire hits UK

Tony Smith, Editor, Reg Hardware (Written by Reg staff)

Re: it's all in the marketing

Key phrase you use: "simply selected the most well known".

True, and it shows that the rest are *not* as well known. And that goes double for Asus and companies like it. They may be well known by tech fans, but not by average folks.

Do not dismiss marketing: it's how you sell a f**k of a lot more kit than your competitors.

Actually, iOS very specifically keeps programs and data together in their own storage structure, inaccessible from other apps.

Tony Smith, Editor, Reg Hardware (Written by Reg staff)

Re: If you're concerned about the last document you opened.

You are correct, but - speaking personally - I've grown accustomed through 20-odd years of GUI use to just quitting apps and clicking 'Cancel' or 'No' when asked if I want to save a file.

I shouldn't have to perform extra steps to do this now. Improving OSes should be about reducing such steps not making more of 'em.

Tablets vs netbooks? For me, the tablet is a fraction of the bulk, at lot less weight and displays comics and books it portrait mode perfectly.

This is why I sold my netbook.

HDMI, USB etc? Don't need 'em - got 'em on my laptop. Physical keyboard ditto. But I'd rather pull out my tablet on a plane or on the sofa for a quick read/surf/email than the notebook. Or the netbook.
