AMD passes the collection plate again

Jags

AMD needs new leadership

AMD needs a new leader/CEO who can deliver the real products than just whinning...

Don't just keep releasing future plans & benchmarks, start selling 'silicon' as PC makers won't be able to build systems on just benchmarks they would need real silicon...

EU files anti-trust charges against Intel

Jags

Knock knock...

[guess my comments posted earlier didn't go thru]

An EU official to another: we need Money...Alott & FREE, can you think of any thing

2nd Official: D'uh...US companies...Microsoft, Google, Intel...they all are evil & they all make tons of money

1st: How do they do that(make money)? do they have like thousands of employees & spend billions on R&D or something...

2nd: Do you want FREE money or not?

1st: Sorry, I was like started 'thinking' or something

2nd: Now you just listen, let's just slap Intel for few billions

1st: But what we'd tell the world about it?

2nd: D'uh...its pretty simple...we'd just say, Intel makes better & faster processors than AMD. And you know what most of the US & rest of the world will support & celebrate 'we slapping Microsoft, Google, Intel'...

1st: What if US government protest or something...

2nd: Dude, do you ever watch/read like TV/News! US government is sooo unpopular in the US, if they even dare to protest, all of the US will beg us up to slap Intel even more...

1st: Dude you are like a genius or something

2nd: I studied at Harvard & Yale but don't tell anyone.

Very nice!

Very nice! Does Russian prosecutors read El Reg? I don't know. But now they should be chasing the clones that have came out.

I know there will be tons of replies personally against me( pointing local laws, evil US companies, Blah, blah and more Blah) but its as simple as this: They can't ditribute others material. 'Coz if Russia believes its OK, then some other country will do the same to 'em.

Oooops I forgot Russia have 'nukes' but more importantly, why in the world someone would ever want to listen/watch to Russian music/movies & haven't heard of ANY Russian software either...LOL

RFID a 'technical blunder', report says

Jags

has El Reg became a newsletter for 'Heavey RF' ??

I'm neither a Rocket nor a RFID Scientist. But as a loyal reader(and a technology enthusiast) I was shocked to see an article on El Reg that completely failed to mention a single solid reason(beside price, which eventually gonna come down as acknowledged by Heavey RF) against the technology it criticizing.

So I went ahed & read the original 'rant' ( http://www.heaveyrf.com/news_and_events/rfidbomb.453.364.html ).

And What I found that, besides Mr.Ronan Clinton's( MD, Heavey RF) anti-Wal Mart vendetta, he mentioned only a single solid reason(no ‘one size fits all’, there are hundreds of different RFID tag types, short range, medium range, long range, LF, HF, UHF, 2.4GHz, 5GHz)

While, just with one 'google', I found this:

RFID Benefits:

1, Reduce warehouse and distribution labor costs

2, Reduce point-of-sale labor costs

3, Reduce inventory

4, Improve forecasting and planning

5, Reduce theft

6, Reduce out-of stock conditions

7, Improve customer experience( details for each point is here: http://expertanswercenter.techtarget.com/eac/expertAnswer/0,295208,sid63_gci1153220,00.html )

So my question to El Reg chief editor: has El Reg became a newsletter for Heavey RF ?

any patch/update trackers in here!

I'm NOT a patch/update tracker...does anyone know how many patches/updates have been issued to Vista/os x since Jan-'07?

Excerpts from Computerworld's email interview(found at http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/04/30/daizovi/index.php ) with Dino Dai Zovi, the New York-based security researcher:

Q: From your research on both platforms, is there a winner between Mac OS X 10.4 and Vista on security?

A:I have found the code quality, at least in terms of security, to be much better overall in Vista than Mac OS X 10.4. It is obvious from observing affected components in security patches that Microsoft’s Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) has resulted in fewer vulnerabilities in newly-written code.

T-Mobile in court over Truphone call blocks

anyone for prevailing market rate?

here's a simple solution:

truphone or whatever MUST accept prevailing market rate for interconnect( from everyone not just t-mobile ) OR they just close their shop & make room for genuine businesses...

Sweden may block Pirate Bay over child porn

Jags

Would be awsome!

Child porn or not, it would be great to see #1 facilitator of online piracy shut down. 'coz its damn easy to help distribute other's contents.

If piratebay really wanna be #1 entertainment provider in the world, they should produce their own movies, music, software etc at the expense of billions/trillions of euros & then distribute it for FREE... or even better they can give away a real, brand spanking new ferrari with each free download at their own expense if they wanna be real generous.

iPhone hackers disclose vulns and hunt for clues

is that 'i' stands for inferior in 'i'phone!

in addition to the bugs mentioned in the article there are other shortcomings in i(nferior)phone:

1, NO 3G/High Speed Internet(YES, its available from the same at&t in major cities & i'm using since Nov-06, works fine between 700 to 1400 Kbps)

2, NO GPS

3, NO MMS(did apple design this in 16th century?)

4, NO A2DP(NO Support for Stereo Bluetooth & they call it best ipod ever?)

5, Just Crappy Bluetooth(only good for Headsets, Can NOT transfer pics etc between PC & phone)

6, NO Video Recording

7, NO Custom Ringtones(can NOT use your own MP3s as Ringtones)

8, NO freedom to install/run 3rd party apps(Like I watch some LIVE TV, CNN-IBN, thru TCPMP on at&t 8525 OR NO internet radio thru GS Player. There literally hundreds stations available for FREE, so u don't have to buy itunes)

9, Guess you can NOT watch Xvid/DivX videos either

10, Can NOT copy/edit text or documents(as per engadget)

So my question to all of you fine folks is...is that 'i' stands for inferior in iphone?

Al Jazeera-ization of theRegister...

Up untill now I thought of theRegister as a trusted & reputed online journal & recommended to many. has theRegister became a platform for anti-US sentiments? (just like al jazeera) 'coz if not this article writer shouldn't be at theRegister.

"But, alas, he probably believes what he is saying, just like the rest of America's copyright ayatollahs.

What a topsy-turvy world we live in"

what is he trying to say by "America's copyright ayatollahs"???

he sounds like EU & rest of the world does not have & does not believe in copyright laws...

What if someone copycates theRegister site & figures out how to divert all traffic & all revenue of the site? is that ok with theRegister ???

is the article writer gonna pay some thousands of people working at Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, Symantec, McAfee to name a few?

Only Connoisseurs know Real Jewels...

Its no wonder that "apes" don't treat da Register nicely as, Only Connoisseurs would know Real Jewels( da Reg)...

And since when "apes" started making better Notebooks/Desktops...'coz otherwise they wouldn't need to rely on Negative Adverts(against MS-PC) to sell their LpTp/ DTops or is it becoz after all these ipod/iphone hype n all they still have 4 to 5% marketshare for notebook/desktop...???

Shame on Orange!!!

I use 30MB in may be 15 minutes on my Cingular 8525(in Los Angeles)...

Guess EU needs a law or something to mandate that unlimited means UN-LIMITED. Period.
