Months-long trial of alleged CIA Vault 7 exploit leaker ends with hung jury: Ex-sysadmin guilty of contempt, lying to FBI

The ghost in the machine?

Or was that a trick question?

C'mon SPARCky, it's just an admin utility update. What could possibly go wrong?

He realized he had to rewrite the boot block as well

So if you get infected by ransomware it will be considered misdemeanor and you pay a fine.

That might really improve security actually.

Re: All Amazon CPU include a integrated microphone as standard

This is so wrong:

*Ethernet cables do not *have* any ground wires (unless we go back to the days of coax Ethernet).*

UTP doesn't but FTP, STP, SSTP have grounded cables and connectors.

Buffer overflow flaw in British Airways in-flight entertainment systems will affect other airlines, but why try it in the air?

A bored nerd is still a nerd, and nerds do these kind of things.

Once I wrote a script to send the same SMS to all th company using a serial gsm modem just because I was stuck recovering a shitty database from old backups at the middle of the night.

Let me tell you they didn't appreciate the 3 am recovery complete SMS.

Still the culprit is the airline/manufacturer as they didn't test a very basic thing in the first place.

Re: Why, ... have I never heard of a fish-tape?

Because as every average it guy from early 90s in the third world knows that fish tape will break cheap cat5 cables while laying them.

Hence we used discarded plastic cable tray caps most of the time.

Quantum computing is so powerful it takes two years to understand what happened

so they asked a question and got back a theory

I guess the 4-qubit quantum computer is a better intuitive mathematician then those guys... plus maybe it factored more primes but they did not realize it yet (as all this techno mumbo jumbo is far off the coffestain fortune telling scale still)

On another note 42-qubit quantum computer may be needed to compute the answer which we know is 42, then we can work on the x-qubit computer to design the computer which will in turn hopefully provide us with THE QUESTION once and for all!

last audit came after a two day system crash due to not investing in some software that we use crititcally, estimated losses about 4 million USD in retail operations :)

so auditors came armed with VMWare and Windows expertise however we are running legacy systems on RedHat4 (Yep!), Oracle 10g, and CentOS and Debian stable distributions with only one Windoze server, their report included a schematic taken from "netstat" readings that put the NMS at the center of all things, thinking it was the most critical server (As it is talking to all the servers :P )

The following was the last meeting:

- Upgrade RH4

- Sorry can't do that legacy software and all

- Upgrade Oracle 10g

- Sorry can't do that legacy software and all

- Server with name WATSON is very critical

- No it's not, that's NMS

- Your windows server need upgrading

- Could you do it while logged on? (I really hate that server takes 45 minutes to restart :)

- Switch all your VMWARE hosts to vmnet adapter from e1000

- Like hell, get the f*** OUT!

well it's good for getting a US/UK visa

when you apply for a visa, the first thing they do to reject you is look you up online, .ı heard countless jerks being turned down with the same sentence "sorry we can't confirm information on your application via viable sources" meaning couldn't look you up on linkedin/facebook/gmail etc... get a name.surname@gmail.com account and a linked in profile with references from a few PHBs and voila 10 years visa4all....

PS. of course don't start mailing about jihad to ISIS before getting your visa

Let's start askin our "multi" national hosting providers

I for one am using Linode both in America and UK, are they subject to same jurisdictions provided that Linode is an American company, or is every datacenter subject to local laws?

All law be it national or international is powerless and old in regards to todays interconnected environment in any case.

Will Clarke should read more closely

Will Clarke should have RTFM, the application's web site clearly states that they skew the data intentionally, to keep this software being used by script-kiddies. The points are supposed to be way off.

To make it less useful for snoops, the spatial and temporal accuracy of the data has been artificially reduced.

Turkey bans Google Books, Google Docs, Google Translate...

Google and Turkey's Telekom Authority Have Reached an Agreement

But on what. No vdetails yet. I only received from an ISP a mail telling me that Google and Turkey's Telekom Authority have reached an agreement and IP ban has been lifted. No more uncensored google for us that figures.

It is not only google or youtube actually, there are many web sites or domains under blockage in Turkey. www.tib.gov.tr informs that in 2009 34,000 unique sites were reported in abuse of the Internet Law.

There is no list of banned sites available, and cannot be obtained via the Information Rights Act, we tried and were declined by a loophole in the law.

So they have reached an agreement, and we would like to know what!
