Quick battery question

You'd expect it to go flat very fast when using all that grunt for games, etc. But why does simply playing a DVD burn up the juice? Inefficient DVD player or is it just the basline usage of all those components being turned on all the time?

Reviewing "if there were any buffering issues at peak times" is rather pointless and in fact misleading, when NetFlix has only just launched and therefor as yet has hardly any users (relatively).

It's offering a free month trial so I'd advise trying it out on your own configuration as being the only real way to see for sure.

Regarding subtitles, a simple search for "Netflix hearing impaired" will help you. For instance:

DirectX is a great development platform though.

And developing 3D graphics for ChromeOS means either writing the thing in JavaScript with WebGL, or using Google's own proprietary NaCl technology... which puts everyone right back where they were but tied to a different company!

It's much easier to make that suggestion, and much harder to see the attraction of social networking, when you haven't got any friends in the first place.

My friend's kid is very good on a regular iPad at age 3... knows how to find videos and play them, etc.

MS' reasoning is clear

It's not to "be nice" or to "attract the best people". It's more likely a very cheap way to get popularity points by backing a cause that those they care about - young people - are highly supportive of.

Balance

They're a news site. They make us aware of news, which includes what the companies are claiming. No doubt when it's actually released, they will make us aware of both their own opinions on the matter, and on experts' opinions.

News means reporting what's happening, not biasing it with your own opinion... El reg typically separates these quite nicely IMO. hence we get Apple rumours passed on, as well.
