Re: Bring back the stocks
I think you are heading in the right direction with this, but can I suggest a stake and a firing squad?

It really only needs to "fly" for the few seconds while the rocket burns.
After that, it will just be "falling with style."
I do worry about just how fast this thing is going to go in a nose down attitude, and whether the on-board auto-pilot will be able to control it at high speed...
Icon vaguely reminiscent of a rocket exhaust.
I've bought a few of the little beauties, and your pricing is somewhat off.
One of them is a very first batch (lucky bastard) Mk 1 Model B, cost just under 30 squid delivered, with a scavenged 2GB SD card from my DSLR when I upgraded, and a £3 from Amazon 1Amp Samsung PSU plus a £1.18 HDMI cable, velcro attached to the back of my TV. It runs OpenELEC/XBMC which I control from my Android phone or browser. No keyboard or mouse required, so total cost about £34.
Another is in an expensive at the time (£9) Cyntech case, (I bought my step-son a different one for <£3) running Transmission, Postfix/Sendmail and Squid/Privoxy from an external 500GB USB HDD. Boots off a 1GB SD that I had kicking around. Another £3 Samsung PSU. No other connections. Total cost £82, including £40 for the HDD. (Which was also diverted from other duties, so not strictly a new expense).
You might also want to take a peek at what some proper "hackers" have been UP to with a Pi, like elReg's adopted balloon ace Dave Akerman, who has somehow managed to send live pictures from 25 miles high... Let alone what was revealed to the world last week, his tracking/navigation gizmo... Marvellous.
Your whole post reeks of negativity, for something which I feel is a valiant attempt to rekindle the embers of what remains of the "What can I make it do?" attitude of the '80s, of which I am a fully paid up member.
Always look on the bright side of life! :o)
A 4 or 5 watt Raspberry Pi or PogoPlug type Arm based box (tobacco tin sized) running a caching proxy server (Squid / Privoxy) will greatly speed up access, especially for frequently accessed pages.
I can set you up with a more or less ready to go ISO. In fact, I will donate a Raspberry Pi with ready to go SD card if you want.
Email me via elReg, they've got my address.
Have to agree with that sentiment. I've spoken to two women who have given birth and had gall stones, and they both said gall stones were far more painful.
Really made my day. :o)
I have numerous health problems, including having three heart attacks, but gall stones wins the "Hurts like fuck" prize by a country mile.
Like being run through with a rusty cutlass. Slowly and repeatedly.
Aaaarrrr...
I should imagine for supporting devices that didn't exist three years ago...
The built in wi-fi on this PC doesn't work OOTB on Ubuntu 10.04, but is auto detected and works fine on 12.04
Debian 7 support is there, Centos 6.3 works.
Only "problem" I have ever had was a Broadcom WI-fi in an old Dell laptop, but a quick prod with the Hardware Driver tool soon had it working.
Step-son had a few problems with an Alienware laptop with dual graphics cards, but that is now sorted.
Has the windows kernel not been updated in that time?
But Dan, the article is about XP.
And how long did W7 take to update to latest revisions and reboot umpteen times?
Last one I did about a month ago took about three hours of updates, and four or five reboots. And user intervention to agree to some MS license BS. .Net I think...
Mint install to same PC took under an hour including all updates and ONE reboot to load the latest kernel. And it was usable whilst it was doing it.
Reg has hidden them behind the not obvious enough "Add an icon" label, above the Title box.
The new work experience web monkey is probably enamoured with the VS12 grey on grey look.
And FFS Reg, pleeease put the icons back on the left where they belong.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
I think it's good that he has been acquitted of the most serious charge, but the length of the sentence he gets for the other "offences" will hopefully not be anywhere near the maximum permitted.
On a separate note, I don't think that sighting people up from your circling helicopter, then pressing the "kill the terrorists" button, can by any stretch of the imagination be called accidental!
Justice? We've heard of it.
