Don't know if it's just a case of confirmation bias, but after looking into this TIOBE index for the first time, it sure feels more "right" to me, especially their "Very Long Term History" table, than the (laughable?) results compiled by looking at GitHub pulls.
Especially since more and more FOSS seem to use GitHub as a software delivery platform as well as a source code management system
...and how long did we have to wait for the first data breach? A week after launch of the Beta!

Either these guys are clowns, which I don't believe, or they just don't actually care because they have ulterior motives. And I don't believe for a moment that these motives are altruistic or ethically driven by the Hippocratic Oath to save humanity from Covid-19
For once* it seems ElReg blesses us with a real technical article (and about Java, no less) without the author feeling compelled to fire cheap shots at Oracle or IBM or Microsoft
I know this is the editorial tone that most people who come here expect, but it IS refreshing, at least once in a while.

I love the fact that it's much more understated than all the smartwatches coming up.
I don't want a colour touch screen on my wrist and I want something small enough too be inconspicuous.
As people have rightly pointed out, you're still going to carry your phone, if not in your pocket within the reaches of a BT connection, and this is the device you're going to use for anything that requires more than a quick glance.
What I use my Pebble for is to throw quick glances to a subset list of notifications (filtered by myself) sent by my phone: SMS, calendar reminders, emails, etc
Oh, and the charger is a simple USB cable and the watch is waterproof to 5ATM
Yes, all this information is already within the hands of the government BUT so far, as you aptly described, it's totally disjointed in countless different databases, all governed by different rules and regulations.
What the census allows is to pull everything under one roof, at the mercy of a simple select statement, and governed by only one piece of regulations.
