Do you have some specific alternative in mind? Something in the bottom bracket? Part of a shaft drive? Or just a general wish for something better?

I ask because I think one of the reasons I've hardly ever ridden my bike is that it turns out I *hate* derailers, so if I was to buy an alternative my inclination would be towards hub gears - not that I've much experience of those either (my previous bike was a BMX as a kid), but vaguely recall them being much nicer from having a go on a mate's Grifter.

I'm not sure I'm too worried about punctures being a hassle, they would be anyway for me (fixing the last one involved whinging "Dad....!" about quarter of a century ago). Similarly changing rims - I can't think why I'd do that other than a crash bad enough to bend a wheel, in which case I've got bigger things to worry about than the labour cost of getting someone to rebuild the wheel.

Reducing the number of layers in the screen isn't just about device thickness. It's about reducing parallax differences between where the pen is and where the detecting layer registers it.

Also the bluetooth pairing is only for the onenote button. Its completely unrelated to the main pen technology.

Yes that does need addressing. Probably sensible to ensure that robot cars are tested to higher standards if we're going to ask more of them (and if we're not then why bother with them?). Perhaps program this into the controlling software: no recent safety check and it refuses to join the high speed road train.

In the range of radio frequencies we use for broadcast it isn't a huge background - the Earth actually outshines the sun in that range, so a should produce a nice big spike on any alien's spectrograph.

Ah, that helps. I must admit I've not investigated what is and isn't possible in detail. As long as they can't turn up with a fleet of Anacondas and buy an entire planet's stock of it's main export then things perhaps won't be so bad.

I have to say that the possibility of the in-game economy being affected by other people's actions in solo mode is one of the main things putting me off buying it - I don't want to have a rubbish time getting started because the starter trade routes are already milked dry.

I know Diablo 3 improved massively once they killed the auction house and made getting loot for yourself realistic. Trying to keep up with inflated auction prices driven by people with more time to play than me was no fun at all.

That lack of time to play is why I worry about the influence of other players on the solo game. I don't want to feel like I'm standing still or even going backwards just because I have other stuff I need to do. Which is unfortunate, because as a teenager playing Elite for the first time (PC, CGA version) I always thought that an online version with enough players could be the best game ever. In a way I still do, it's just I don't have time for it anymore and would therefore prefer something that pauses when I have to deal with the real world instead.

SP3 = Surface Pro 3. I'm guessing its basically the same windows store app as for the phone, at the very least its just as buggy.

Or perhaps in both cases it was checked, but by humans who are fallible and miss stuff despite their best intentions?
