I find it depressing that violation of free trade is possibly more embarrassing than violation of human rights.
It just seems like, I dunno, a bit of a priority problem.

Not even old enough to be crusty and old...
But as someone who's watched the continuing transition from usenet to web forums with irritation, I find this depressing. I don't make much use of it anymore, but it's still a superior tool for the purpose.
We gave up client control, and all we got were pretty fonts and crackhead smilies.

Can it really be that hard for whatever code of practice changes they're proposing to say something like:
"Don't lie to your customers. No, that three point type asterisked note will not put out your flaming pants. In fact it pretty much acknowledges that you're being deliberately deceptive."
We get the same thing this side of the pond. I'm not sure if it's worse here or not though.
