But i bet they'll find evidence of and advanced hydrocarbon addicted civilisation beneath the surface, having been driven there as the atmosphere was destroyed by their love of hydrocarbon.
And while the civilisation was relatively techologically advanced, it was hampered by a corrupt and backward looking philosophical\political system that simply refused to acknowledge the irreprable damage their dalliance with HCs was doing, preferring to concentrate on the aquisition of meaningless tokens until it was too late.
Finally driven underground the civilisation died a slow and painful death as the complex interdependencies between the alpha beings of the surviving civilisation and the lesser biomass became exposed when the biomass gradualy slipped into extinction.
So different to us, theres nothing for us to learn there - seems little point in going really.
:-)

While looking for the link you may like to consider the sentance....
'I haven't exactly heard about the general public clamoring for relaxed copyright laws - except perhaps on certain websites that offer their visitors the opportunity to leave comments'
Which as I read it says in effect - you havent heard people complain about copyright anywhere, except the places where they were able to complain about it.
So with no opportunity to complain, people dont complain (you didnt work for the bush administration by any chance?) - brilliant.
Sure compared to the wars, AIDS, poverty, the middle east, climate change and such like it's not a big deal, true, but it is a deal nonetheless
Oh! and another thing;
Neelie Kroes was an elected representative for 18 years - i know nothing about her beliefs, and very little about the political system used in the netherlands, but i very strongly suspect that she would have had to win a few elections at least to manage to serve for 18 years.
how many elections have you won? what is your mandate?
I thought so.
persnly i'd rather stick pins in my eyes that listen to even one wave from a x-fuctup battery hen, but isnt their output pretty much exclusively covers?
Cant see cowell et al ever wanting to spend time in a room with a 'creative' - research shows that occasionally those types show signs of thinking for themselves - fuck that for a game of soldiers!
as with politics and fast food - the people get pretty much what they deserve.
The DHS made a further announcement on the lack of credibility to rumors on attacks of SCADA systems controlling major infrastructure plant, but the words were drowned out by the sound of chickens coming home to roost.
Stuxnet... if you build it they will come.
Oh and PS
All the ppl whining about security and corner cutting.
A> these systems fall under the cat of 'early adopters' and the expected lifetime for this kind of control kit is measured in decades - and who really gave a shit about network security in the 80's? - and the same philosophy is in place now - Stuxnet has been around a few years. The people using & developing this kit are too busy keeping the world turning to worry about Hax0rs! (until something _big_ goes bang)
B> hell yes it was done on the cheap! - that's what the market dictates. you don't like it? - vote differently. Make critical infrastructure subject to higher standards than 'what the market will support'
That presupposes the presence of a brain
Prospective Republican Candidate indicates the absence of said organ.
<what did i say nancy? - read my lips! no more taxes - fellow astronauts we live in a universe that is almost infinite> i'd include some of the more recent bush jr & palin space-between-the-ears-farts but apparently this post is limited to 65000 odd characters so there is just not enough room.
Our laptop is in constant use and routinely fought over. I'm not in the scramble - being a dedicated desktop user, I don't really need it. I think difference accounts for the wide variety of reactions to a computer. If you use a desktop all the time, you might wonder why anyone would want a laptopt. But a huge number of people want an appliance for communication and entertainment that 'just works' - a desktop or workstation entails knowing far more about computers than they can (or want to) cope with.
there fixed it for you :-D
Are these the same experts that took all risk out of the mortgage market (right up until it disappeared up it's own arse)?
Or the experts that brought us the derivatives market?
Yeah i thought so....
Long winded way of saying hubris.
All you experts will never admit that the big changes in tech are always unforeseen, ergo the value of their expertise is moot. The speculators will hoodwink the investors that it is otherwise, trade, take their percentage - while the going is good, and when it all goes tits up the investors lose and the traders hitch a ride on the next bubble.
just a little bit boring
the elephant in the renewables room
'total capacity' this equates to a largely fictitious figure derived, possibly from some notional ideal performance - under laboratory conditions, downhill with the wind behind it!
So while 400MW _sounds_ like a real power stations worth - that 400MW of _capacity_ will on most days generate what?
40MW??
4MW
4W
Suddenly don't look so good does it?
FIT is highway robbery, and the people farming it are... privateers. We should retroactively cancel the whole deal tomorrow - fuck the lot of em!. And the fit industry can return to selling notional timeshares in as yet unbuilt resorts in spain, or whatever it was they did before.
We live in a country where this winter we can expect around 3000 people to die from cold because they cannot afford heating - yet the govt, with a straight face is suggesting that we continue to massively subsidise a technology that is at best utterly useless.
speaking as someone who hasn't bought a dead tree version of a newspaper since the early 90's I'd like to know just why the fuck would *anyone* pay for the online version of fleetstreets prurient, illiterate, inaccurate, recycled, racist, biased, libelous, small minded, defamatory, sensationalist, double standard-ridden, hipocritical, dishonest, xenophobic, hidden agenda-ised.....
(okay describing the poor Dr Kelly as 'Tragic Boffin' after his murder by UK/US security types still appeals to my twisted sense of humour)
but I tihnk you'll catch my drift.
