"Two star general"

Huh? No such thing, last I heard, unless our army really is being managed by the Americans now.

Most consumers reuse banking passwords on other sites

Terms and conditions don't help

Some of the banks themselves really don't help when it comes to choosing secure passwords: their terms and conditions often prohibit the recording of passwords in any medium, hardcopy or electronic, which is a bit of a bummer as nobody can realistically be expected to remember a different brute-force-resistant password for every site they access. The options are either ignoring the terms and conditions and hope they don't find out, or re-using likely weaker passwords. Not really a good choice when it comes to security.

The alternative of using an encrypted key safe may indeed provide a single point of failure, but it's probably the least worst solution of the lot since remembering just the one password gives more scope for it being hard to crack. Except that it's against the rules.

Still, that's no excuse for people who use passwords like "password" or their kid's name.

Tesco store bans shopping in pyjamas

Riff-raff

Waitrose has the worst riff-raff of all. They just *think* they aren't. They're certainly the most ill-mannered of the lot, anyway, and the main reason I don't shop at Waitrose is because of its rude and unpleasant clientele.

Can't say I've ever witnessed anybody shopping in their pyjamas. And after a moment's thought, it's not an experience I feel I've missed, either. You do occasionally see the shoeless in summer, though since they have a vested interest in not stepping in anything nasty I'm not really sure what the problem is. Well, other than the aforementioned (lack of) safety issues, though IMHO that's really something for the stores to sort out rather than asking customers to go in wearing steel toecaps and hard hats "because that's what'll happen" etc. Oh come on, a bit of hyperbole never hurt anyone.

They probably weren't informed

> "So they chose to leave with nothing. Instead of waiting for the possibility they'd have to leave anyway but with a nice big cash package? Fair enough..."

If their personnel, sorry, HR department is anything like any other I've experienced, they won't have bothered informing the staff in question until the latest possible moment that they can get away with contractually. Much cheaper to wait for them to get fed up and leave instead of paying them a fat redundancy cheque. Plus they probably get some perverse amusement out of it, too.

Everything gives you cancer

... including cancer.

Er anyway. I had this bright idea last year of a "desk bar": raise my desk to bar height and stand up instead! I spent enough time propping up the bar in my youth, so "how hard could it be" etc. After trying it for a month, I was no healthier, had lost no weight and knackered a knee that took nearly a year to stop moaning about its feat of endurance (oh, the temptation to make a bad pun is killing me).

Now I think I'll take my chances and sit down. Though I probably do get up once every 45 minutes to wander to the fridge to find a nice lump of lard to snack on. Mmm.
