SpaceX's Safety Record

SpaceX's safety record is and continues to be nothing short of incredible, kudos and keep up the excellent work.

This is easily the most exciting project going on in North America right now, maybe even the world (LHC might give it a run for the money). Every piece of news from and about the company makes me giddy. I'm very happy that they are avoiding the trap of "go fever" and doing everything right.

Silly Doctor

He would have gotten away with it if he had sold all of the kid. Well, except for the brain, that part belongs in the trash.

I wonder if that phrase was ever uttered by Charles Babbage.

I'll just get my coat and be off to burn in hell for all eternity now.

Upgrade Treadmill

For the last ten years or so I have preferred to wait a couple of generations between upgrades. I'm going to skip the fast fast fourier transform and wait until the fast fast fast fast fourier transform comes out.

Poor, poor Goldman Sachs...

It's people like this programmer clown that force honest and reputable companies like Goldman Sachs to have to pay off judges and politicians. And just think of how humiliating it is for them to have to beg the government for tax payer money with which to do so.

It's good that they locked up this guy and threw away the key. Anyone who messes with software that provides such value to all of society should be made an example of. Software that allows a bank to make itself an obligatory middle-man by virtue of network lag allows the wheels of society to turn. Without it would Fred be able to work assembling Hummer H2s at GM?...oh wait, that's China now. Well, what about Bob the steel worker...no, that doesn't work. Wait, I've got it, Joe the ethanol corn farmer! Who thinks of poor, poor Joe?!

So long then, Windows 2000

Goodbye, W2K

You will be sorely missed.

Now, can we have a replacement? Can we PLEASE have a desktop OS for BUSINESS users? Crayola interfaces, even if they can be disabled are unprofessional and undesirable. I really don't need translucent window borders and crippled windows explorer. I don't need dump trucks worth of extraneous garbage loaded on top of the OS. I don't need buttons and menus to get moved around at random, hidden or made unusable every few years. And I really, really don't need to be forced to fundamentally change infrastructure just because some arbitrary period of time has gone by.

Can I please have an OS with a clean and utterly minimal interface, no extra garbage software loaded, proper and easy task automation (sorry, but wsh is shit) and kernel/driver/library/security updates that will continue INDEFINITELY? I want an OS that is designed to minimize disruption to running business systems.

Some things improve with times in ways that make radical change worthwhile. Game systems and home systems can benefit from extra software and flashy, new interfaces. Accounting/sales/purchasing/other cube farm/CAD/CNC/industrial monitoring and control do not benefit.

MEMORY! MEMORY! MEMORY! MEMORY!

I'd like you to imagine a balding, rotund man with torrents of sweat pissing from his pits, wandering back and forth chanting "MEMORY, MEMORY, MEMORY!" That's pretty much my position on the matter.

I personally couldn't care less about styling the UI after some Playschool product for four-year-olds. However, I guess that's important to a lot of people and would help market penetration, so fine. The other features sound decent and I'd like to have them, IF Firefox wouldn't eat RAM like a starving humpback at an all-you-can-eat krill buffet. HTML5 video and Flash video both suck when your swap is being beaten like Charla Nash after being thrown into the cage at the primate exhibit.

Other people here have mentioned that the memory use has improved in this release. I hope that it's improved A LOT.
