MS freebie anti-virus scanner auto-downloads provoke more anger

in truth, I think MS Antivirus would seem a perfect fit (I know I know), fact is MS knows more about their OS and how their antivirus software can work with it without slowing down the machine unlike 3rd party AV's that are relying on hooks into the OS.... (Paradoxically yes, but hooks are known to slow down everything, from keyboard, to window hooks....)

Re: that's what users do....

@Kubla Cant:

"It's also no good criticising users for failing to take proper account of the warnings displayed when apps install. That's what users do. It's the responsibility of a good UI developer to recognise this and to protect users against their own mistakes."

thanks for making coffee fly out of my nostrils...

That's like saying to a driver to drive into a wall at 120Km/hour and crash into it... no car manufacturer will stop you from doing that... you have free will to do things spectacularly and no one has a right to dictate to you how to do so and so apart from "Please slow down" which can be easily ignored....

A developer is not in control of the end user's handset plain and simple, the most they can do is work within the constraints such as API and use them....

The end user ultimately makes those decisions.... no matter how lame and ignorant the decisions they make, ultimately, it's their responsibility....so .... yes tough love comes in and criticise the end user ..... LAME!!!

So what if you install an app outside of official sources - you're on your own dude(s)! Moot point in whingeing about it...http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/fail_32.png.

Tough love must be said here... http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/pint_32.png

Windows 3.0 turns 20

I remember doing a installation of Windows 2 on a old 386sx 16Mhz PC, and incanting on the command line to backup the installed files onto a 5.25" floppy for my old IBM PC XT 8088 Turbo with 1Mb RAM and 10Mb hard disk (yes that original IBM PC XT with 5.25" 360Kb) as Windows 2 was on 3.5" floppy (720Kb), and doing another incantation of restore on the XT and got Windows 2 up and running under Dos 3.3 (I had to copy DOS in order for the backup/restore to work!) :P

Wonder does anyone actually remember the switches used to do the backup/restore, let alone the switches to format the disk... :P Happy days!!!

Goodbye facebook and good riddance! http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/happy_32.png

Shame on fb for forcing millions of users to have their lives under search engines...imagine in twenty years time after you get married, and your kids/grandkids will then see that information resulting in social embarrassments....http://www.theregister.co.uk/Design/graphics/icons/comment/fail_32.png

Reminds me of a joke about the chicken and the pig

Chicken falls in love with a pig,

the very next day, the chicken dies of swine flu, the pig dies of bird flu...
