China's 'stealth fighter' flies – brown trouser time, or not?

Mike Echo

Planes for sale - cheap.

They are probably going to manufacture them in bulk to flog to nations that cannot afford western tech. The Chinese are great at making and selling cheap stuff (never mind the quality).

Yahoo! sneak peeks revamped Mail

Mike Echo
FAIL

Yeah, but...

I stand corrected. It's been a long Friday and I haven't checked Yahoo's pop access recently, k? Now, where's me beer?

Mike Echo

Yeah, but...

As long as gmail, lavabit, etc offer free pop3 and/or imap access, I can't see Yahoo mail becoming a threat any time soon no matter how fancy their interface.

Dell accused of hiding incriminating evidence in defect case

Mike Echo
FAIL

@Pahhh

"Every large company runs foul of their suppliers. It often has nothing to do with cost cutting. And even a previously reliable supplier can produce unreliable shit. Thats the way it goes."

True, but it is how the large company deals with customers afterwards that is the issue here, I think.

Mike Echo
FAIL

O how the mighty have fallen

Dell were, at one stage, THE company to buy from because they had customer service second to none with extremely high satisfaction rates. Now they just smell like bad fish. I wouldn't buy or recommend a Dell ever again.

Apple iPhone exec falls on sword

Mike Echo

Who?

"Mr. Papermaster, who was listed as an executive on Apple's Web site earlier Saturday, had vanished from the site later in the day."

Did he really exist at all?

Microsoft dubs Windows Phone 7 'ad serving machine'

Mike Echo

Thanks, but no thanks.

As if Win mobile didn't have enough of an image problem. Now you can guarantee users avoiding it should the "ad serving" come to fruition. Opt out? Not even an opt in?

Conroy pledges to stop spams infecting Aussies' portals

Mike Echo

Blush

Sometimes I am embarrassed to admit I'm an Australian. Right now is one of those times.

There is nothing lamer than a politician trying to sound as though he is technologically literate but merely showing his ignorance.

Oz gov in confusion over net filter plans

Mike Echo

@ Lionel Baden

RC = "Refused Classification". The stuff that is not given a rating.

Man's MySpace page torpedoes personal injury suit

Mike Echo

What a maroon

Why don't these people get it? Writing online about things (slagging your boss, bragging about that sickie you took because of a hangover, etc,) is just plain stupid. It will always come back to bite you on the arse later. Idjits.

New road made from pigsh*t in Missouri

Mike Echo

Lewis, O Lewis

Once I saw Lewis' name on the byline I luckily knew what I was in for. Do you El Reg hacks actually fight over who gets to write about a story with such potential as this? I can see the El Reg news room now - "It's my story!". "No it's not, I saw it first!", "Bugger off!", etc.

Novell (not SCO) owns UNIX, says jury

Mike Echo

Thanks, Darl

Darl McBride, the business legend, started all this crap and the idjits who took the helm after his departure should have learnt from his mistakes. But they didn't. Chickens -> home -> roost.

77% of domain registrations stuffed with rubbish

Mike Echo

Spam

Maybe entering dodgy contact information for a domain is to try to avoid being spammed to death?

Aussie net censorship turning Chinese

Mike Echo

Horse trading

As is usual in politics all over the globe, this issue is simply down to political horse trading between the politicians who need the god botherers' support in the senate. It's pretty sad, really.

Microsoft erases Windows 8 optimism

Mike Echo

surreal?

My vote for the most annoying and misused adjective of late goes to 'surreal', as in "...to come up with a vision for Windows.next is a process that is surreal...".

Dell ordered back to court in laptop dustup

Mike Echo
Thumb Down

What happened to Dell?

It seemed like not that long ago that the word "integrity" and the phrase "customer focus" was synonymous with Dell. This episode shows that Dell, like so many others, now smells like a dead fish. I too have been burned by the gap between their so-called "cusotmer focus" and the sad reality that is now Dell.

Nexus One poised for iPhone's American 3G

Mike Echo

Interesting

This is going to be very interesting to watch, as I think the Googlephone and it's various Android-running relatives are going to be the only serious contenders for the Jesusphone. Stand by.

Nokia reckons its Symbian^4 UI will leapfrog the rest

Mike Echo

WinMo

I have never owned a phone with WinMo and would never buy one. The oft-flaky behaviour displayed by my computer does not give me enough confidence to take that leap, regardless of how illogical that may sound. The Nokia 5800 is quite good (and great value for money) but the competition is really hotting up now.

Watchdog mauls Disney woman's breasts

Mike Echo

Lester, Lester, Lester

When I saw the article's RSS feed title I placed a bet with myself that it would have to be one of Lester's fine efforts. Now I owe myself twenty dollars, damn you Lester.

Dell tech flashes woman with (her own) jubblies

Mike Echo
Unhappy

Appalling

I find it appalling that Dell can shrug off such unsavoury behaviour with "he's one of our best techs". So Dell condones such perversion? The employee should be unemployed by now.

French woman marries dead fiancé

Mike Echo
Joke

Not much

If you thought the wedding ceremony wasn't much, wait til you hear about the honeymoon.

Wallace and Gromit get the Google doodle treatment

Mike Echo
Thumb Up

Quite fitting too

It's good to see the anti-pesto lads honoured. I still wear my W&G t-shirts with pride.

"You'll be hunted down like, well... a dog." Love it.

Gmail users howl over Halloween outage

Mike Echo

Second luckiest person alive

My gmail pop has been sporadically flaky for a while now, complete with timeouts in TB, but (a) it's free and (b) I can usually use the web interface or the blessed PopPeeper to grab my pop mail.

Facebook awarded $711m in 'Spamford' Wallace case

Mike Echo
Pirate

That's fine and well but...

huge monetary fines mean nothing unless they can actually be collected. Come the revolution, all spammers are the first ones against the wall. I'll volunteer for the chain gun, thanks.

HTC says no to Android HD2 to aid Windows Mobile

Mike Echo
Thumb Down

@AC 16:51

"... and then? I smell a deal has been done."

Yes, something definitely smells a bit off. I think that HTC is trying to have two bob each way but I'm not so sure this is a smart move on their part. The HTC brand is strong, but not strong enough to force people to a Win mobile OS if they basically don't like/want it.

Disney kicks 'Ho White' out of bed

Mike Echo

Disney > The Foundry

"Disney didn't create Snow White".

Yeah, but Disney has a lot more money than the ad company. 'Nuff said.

Landmark ISP piracy case could kick thousands offline

Mike Echo

Can of worms

This case has generated a lot of interest here but, as we all know when dealing with the law, the end result may not have any relationship to "what is right" and "commonsense".

iSnack 2.0 morphs into Cheesybite

Mike Echo

@ Goat Jam

'Shitty Smear'? I know, how about we call it 'skidmarks'. I can just see it now - "mum, can I have some skidmarks on toast?" :-)

Mike Echo

Buzzwords

The marketing droids get paid too much money to justify a choice and use trendy buzzwords and pop psychology to do so -

"personal call to action", "relevance to snacking" , "completely encapsulate the new brand."

They left out "empowerment".

Besides, it still tastes shit.

Microsoft plays ads-funded Office 2010 Starter gambit

Mike Echo

No media?

So that means you don't get a copy of the media? What happens if your system goes tits up and necessitates a reinstall of the OS?

Kraft cans Vegemite iSnack2.0

Mike Echo
Megaphone

If it is a stunt

then the day it is able to be proved is the day the company will lose a *lot* of credibility (and gain a *lot* of scorn) I reckon. It's a dangerous gamble if it is a PR stunt.

Also, I don't blame the guy for coming up with such an idiotic name, I blame the decision makers who actually thought it was a good name. Idjits.

Oh, they sell Marmite here in Oz so I must buy some and taste it to see what all you limeys are on about, as I lerv Vegemite. I have a feeling though that it will be (like Vegemite) an acquired taste and whichever one you grow up with is the one you love.

Windows 7 OEM prices revealed

Mike Echo

I love the way

marketing types avoid using certain terms like "basic" or "beginner". The cheapest, lowest-featured edition is called 'Premium', which is a word normally associated with higher-end stuff. Kinda like a hamburger chain not selling drinks called 'small' but offering 'regular' instead.

Vegemite unscrews lid on iSnack2.0

Mike Echo
Thumb Down

It tastes

as lame as its name sounds - I bought some just to try and it was awful. The guy certainly will go down in history, just like the captain of the Titanic.

MMS (finally) comes to AppleT&T

Mike Echo

Mind boggling

I find it mind boggling that any mobile manufacturer could release to the public a phone minus a basic MMS feature in the first place.

Microsoft howls as Google turns IE into Chrome

Mike Echo

Ironic

Those pesky chickens have come home to roost in the Redmond barn.

- MS owns the desktop (for now)

- Google owns the web

- Google owns search

I can envision a time in the future where users, misty eyed, will remember the "good old days" when we used to almost always use MS software. They will then be bitching about Google.

Stephen Hawking both British and not dead

Mike Echo

Rent a crowd?

How many of the people we saw on the news arguing rabidly against Obama's plan were funded by the health care insurers and other vested interests? I live in Oz and would gladly pay a little more towards improving public health even if some other poor bugger has to use it and not me.
