Remote locking? Not sure that will work too well.

I remember there was a move to enforce gun safety by having a proximity sensor fitted to handguns.(Colt IIRC did some work on it)

The idea being that if junior got hold of mommys loaded weapon and pointed at his playmate, nothing would happen as the trigger system would be locked without the prescence of an "Arming dongle" in close proximity.

After a splash of publicity about responsible gun ownership and the like, the idea was quietly dropped as the technology wasn't quite good enough, and when you are dealing with something that can cause big spurting holes in people, not quite good enough REALLY doesn't cut it.

There were two BIG problems. Deactivation of the trigger wasn't good enough, and the weapon could be accidently discharged, and conversely when it was required for a real reason of being fired, the deactivation weren't all that good either. Just what you need if you have to have a firearm for home protection.

Good old fashioned mechanical safeties, and common sense approaches such as securing a weapon and making sure that the ammo is out of childrens reach is cheaper and more effective

AC 17:05 Something Useful

Yes thankfully the guidance is being circulated, which is good.

If it comes from the top that this guidance has to be followed, hopefully the few idiots who give the rest of the force a pretty unpleasant reputation may have cause to think twice.

Failing that they need to be held to account by the IPCC.

Oh and BTW the last photograph I took of a copper was one on duty at the Edinborough fringe festival. He was being followed by an Amy Winehouse look-a-like in drag.

Tory surveillance backlash: Worthy, but is it workable?

Does this mean

That Tory B Liar lite, also known as David Camoron is actually thinking about proposing some policies. Well it took the useless, chinless wonder long enough.

I'd have more respect for this bunch of wannabes if they had been banging on about this, and acting as a proper her majesty's opposition for the last few years. This smacks of the usual bland opportunism and corporate mind rot that seems to infest our politicians at the moment.

The country is crying out for a change in incumbents. Knocking Neu Arbiet off their perch should be as easy as shooting dead fish in a barrel, yet this mealy mouthed mission statement is all we get.

SirTainleyBarking

The optimum way of using battery power

Seriously, this is the sort of use that electric vehicles are ideal for. lots of stop-start motoring in heavy congestion with long periods sat at idle waiting for the lights to change.

Add into this a potential to improve air quality in the city it really is a no brainer.

proof of concept has been around for 50 years in the form of the milk float.

The only trial here is the quick change battery pack. If that proves reliable and has enough capacity for continuous use without having to go back to base every 5 minutes, I can't see any cab driver having any problems with this at all
