Mid-Atlantic Ocean temperatures peaked in 1998

Did anybody read the article before commenting?

All they are actually saying is that this cooling should not be taken as evidence for or seen as related to any general warming. Nor as evidence against.

They're not saying Global warming is or isn't happening, or is or isn't man made... why all the jumping up and down?

Cool down everybody...

Full screen flash woes.

Sorry Jeidiah - there really are issues with full screen flash on certain hardware. I haven't spent enough time on it to get to the bottom of it, but my perfectly well specced (couple of years old) desktop, with an NVidia gfx card and the open drivers (I think - can't actually remember now as getting a working setup involved flipping driver choice a few times - fail number 1) chokes completely under Ubuntu 10.4 / Firefox / whatever version of flash plugin installs itself.

If I want full screen flash video (e.g. to watch iPlayer) I reboot into Windows and it 'just works'. For a lot of people, that's enough to kill bothering with Linux.

RE: AC. 11:28

I thought it was pretty clear that I read both the article and the linked commentary from the artist. Frankly, it sounds like the site did pretty much exactly what they promised: allowed her to professionally record her music, and brought her to the attention of both some professionals in the industry and a good ground base of fans.

If she failed to build on that, for whatever reason (niche appeal, lack of touring, bad luck) it hardly seems like the site's fault. Now they may or may not be corrupt / money grabbing, but it doesn't sound like they particularly sold this whiney individual short.

And pint cos it's Friday.

Cry me a river

So if I understand correctly

1) she signed up to a site which promised to find her a bunch of fans to provide funding to record an album

2) they did that

3) the album was made (and presumably those that paid for it liked it?)

4) she didn't make mega sales on itunes or Amazon, and is blaming... her bankroll?

Am I alone in not feeling remotely sorry for her (other than if her side of the story over song theft is correct on the link, but from the info provided that seems unrelated to sellaband... who is Casper anyway...)

Unhappy

Sad day

"This stance may have been motivated by the reflexive and mostly poorly-informed hostility towards the term "flying car" which has come to permeate much of the internet hive-mind in recent times."

Or, from the sounds of it as described, it may have come from the fact that the design is in no way a car. It's a small quiet light aircraft.

Can only agree with above comment though. Very sad for his friends and family, as well as the loss to the industry.

What on earth is everyone's problem

I understand this isn't a popular view, but here's a thought: maybe they were trying to offer a really useful service. the vast majority were happy to be in the BT phone books until recent years, and this is no more intrusive than that - significantly less so since they weren't giving out the actual numbers anyway. I think an opportunity has been missed here to be honest, when there were much bigger things the obsessive privacy campaigners could have been worrying about (like pretty much anything our government ever does).
