Review: Renault Zoe electric car

Pete 6
FAIL

Re: Dodgy Renault Electrics?

> clinging to 70s stereotypes much?!

Hardly! A colleague of mine would regularly carry around in his Megane spare coil packs and spare bulbs (they blew in the rain). The radio would refuse to work when it was "a bit cold" and the electric window motors were replaced twice under warranty as they would seize and generate vast quantities of smoke as they burned out, in both his and his wife's car.

I think the stereotype is still justified.

Virgin Media STILL working on fix for SuperHub corrupt downloads glitch

You can try, but

You can take my VMNG300 modem from my cold, dead hands. It's working fine, even at 100mbit. Saw 12MB/s today from Steam which will do me fine. I don't want, or need the superhub for that extra 20mbit that Virgin keep promising me.

Lovefilm knocks a pound off streaming sub

Pete 6
Pirate

Bah

I tried to shed the piratey ways so I tried Lovefilm's streaming service a while ago, using my free month that I got on the PS3, and the quality was abysmal. They claim 'DVD Quality' but to believe that you must be blind and deaf. Horrible low resolution blocky video and truly awful compressed-to-death audio.

I phoned up to cancel on the same day, I didn't even have the subscription for 3 hours.

I'd gladly pay for a service that can offer HD streaming, Youtube manages just fine for free, so why can't a paid for service?

I'm pretty sure they fixed them the release after the "broken" version. I've not had any issues in any recent versions anyway, they work just as well as they always used to.

The title is required, and must contain letters and/or digits.

I tried using my phone as an MP3 player, but the hissy output, meagre storage and crap battery life are somewhat of a disadvantage.

I'll stick with my old 160GB ipod. As much as I'd like to get something else (as the battery is now a little ropey, it used to be fantastic, but it is nearly 5 years old) there's nothing that does the job as well. Shame itunes is such a bloated pile of slow garbage.

Pete 6
WTF?

The title is required, and must contain letters and/or digits.

I've also got an N900, and seeing as Nokia have basically abandoned it, the sat nav on it is utter garbage and so lacking in features it's worthless. As the userbase is so small, you can't get anything decent for it.

I'll be sticking with my Tomtom for now. I can wait 30 seconds for it to kick off, when I'm driving I generally know the general direction I'm heading for at least that long, I'm not a total vegetable that needs my hand holding right from my doorstep.

Limits and caps

There is now. The 50mbit service has an upload cap and is subject to throttling on newsgroups/bittorrent at peak hours when the network is congested. Virgin are yet to specify any real details of it yet though. I can say I'm yet to be affected by any of it though, and get 50mbit down and 5mbit up all day and all night.

Why?

Why can't the browser use the codecs installed on the computer like any other media player software? I can play both ogg and h264 in media player without any fuss, why cant my browser do the same? Why does it have to be hardcoded to use exclusively one codec and one codec alone?

For what it's worth (usually very little) I've signed it. So don't update to itunes 9?

I havent updated my version of itunes in ages, every new release brings a raft of new useless features that I have to hack around in the registry to return to the same way of working as the previous version. You might need it if you have the latest all-singing all-dancing iPhone or iPod but version 7 works fine with my iPod classic.

If you have a Pre don't update to 9 and it'll probably still work fine (just a guess, no actual proof of it working!)
