Well this has definitely stunted science and maths, when was the last time substantial money was invested in science? well except for the hadron collider... and the telescopes... and the ISS... and the supercomputers.
We need more patent cases and more patent filings, we need 10 new cases for every case resolved, we need to clog the entire system up with so much paperwork and backlog that it collapses under its own weight.
Then in the aftermath we will have groundwork for a new system that actually works and several years supply of toilet roll.
Connection stability should be built into every package as standard. Implying that home broadband users should accept spotty unreliable access is a bad precedent, you don't expect satellite TV to cut out in the middle of the football or a low cost commuter car to drop its wheels half way to work.
If they are expecting to make a ton of cash on Amazon purchases and books etc through the device they can probably afford to go light on the initial mark-up. Getting a minimum £79/yr out of each punter that forgets to cancel the enhanced subscription after a year worth it alone.

Doesn't seem that different from the Alesis IO|2 I use which you can pick up for £80. It does 24bit recording, usb 1.1, stereo recording, phantom power etc etc.
It also has midi in/out which came in handy for updating a pedal firmware.
Though I did have to return mine for repairs once and after the preamp goes above 9 oclock it starts to hiss so maybe its worth paying twice the price.
