@Still Rubbish
You need to go into your account setup in GMail and set up the "send mail" server for that email account.
If you don't do that then gmail doesn't know where to send the email!

"So they'll make emails in Word format because obviously the industry must have reached a consensus about that being the new standard while we weren't looking."
Er no... outlook sends emails in either plain text, rich text or HTML. Word may be used to edit/view the email but it is still transmitted under a standard format
And (not aimed at you Rob) outlook is an email client, not a web browser so it isn't the place for a "rich media experience"
Next thing the web 2.0 hacktards will want is flash embedding into emails. When will it end?
This campaign wasnt started by outlook users, it was started by spammers complaining that their carefully crafted spam doesn't display the way they want to in outlook
I'm a heavy outlook user, solicited emails from people I want to receive email from, no matter which email client they used to compose the message always display perfectly in outlook
Do you really want outlook changing just to please the spammers?
I really hope that MS doesn't change anything
The only people who seem to be crying over this are the web designers, the people who design all those crappy HTML emails you never read, or you make sure they go to a seperate email account just so you can sign up for the service but ignore any crap they insist on sending you every week/month/day/hour or have some new amazing marketing initiative you really just have to see.
Yes, I'm talking about the SPAM you don't read, don't really want and they would save themselves a lot of effort if they sent a plain-text SHORT email with a few links for those people (i.e. themselves, mothers and girlfiriends) who really do want to read the marketing speak and have their eyes assulted.
What ever email client I use, i ALWAYS have images turned off just to spare myself the pain. Plus the email loads/downloads a lot quicker meaning it can hit the trash can a lot quicker too (win-win)
Of course there are also the complaints from those who jump on the MS bashing bandwagon without really thinking about what they are complaining about and really need to work on improving their own sad little lives rather than constantly looking to critise a software company. IF MS is that bad then piss off and use something else.
Strangely enough, email from real people I know with content that does actually matter to me and I want to read, react to and respond to always renders fine in outlook 2007
Some of us don't like using touch screen keyboards.
HTC does offer other phones like the Touch Diamond2 which don't have the keyboard for those people who are happy using a touch screen to type
At the end of the day its all about choice and not being dictated to by the manufacturer
Actually, on planes, trains or automobiles noise cancelling earphones are worth wearing whether listening to anything or not.
They really cut the background engine/wind/tyre/rail noise and mean that your ears aren't being constantly assaulted by the noise.
I still enjoy taking mine off momentarily mid flight just to remind myself of how much noise I'm not hearing and thats with them not even plugged into anything.
There is of course the option of ear plugs but i can't stand stuffing them down my ears
A lot of rural areas aren't on gas mains either. So people who want gas get a big tank which is filled up every now and again by an even bigger gas truck.
Rather than running high speed internet to these areas, simply send them a couple of DVDs each month with the lastest internet page updates and any emails they've been sent
The new version of messenger will use your default web browser.
I think the old versions were tied to IE because of hotmail being a bit choosy over which browsers it would open in. They finally sorted out hotmail to work in most browsers so messenger has followed.
Ironically this is at about the same time that I started to find firefox to bloated to use.
For many years now outlook, word and excel have all used the default browser
You beat me to it, software fans are blinkered, celibate idiots. Get a life, a computer is a tool not a fucking football team.
After a few years of being a firefox user (and loving most of it) I ended up going back to IE. Firefox of late has been buggy, resource hungry and the frequent forced updates can come at some irritating moments.
IE on the other hand seems to just work and is n't as prone to needing a restart after watching my CPU going up to 100%.
OK - Firefox probably could be "tweaked" on my systems to run better but I really can't be arsed doing that when IE8 just seems to work period.
As for Opera Mobile (which came preinstalled on my phone)... again, buggy, prone to crashes, resource hungry and takes ages to start up compared to IE. With the SPB enhancements for IE I can use tabs when I want to, completely removing any need for another browser.
Yours was better but still crap
If IE is the car radio and you want it "completely" removing because you refeuse to use the radio that BMW gave you.
Then you find that the satnav which you kept has gone completely silent cause the speakers were part of the BMW radio system and you end up with several speeding tickets from not hearing the speed camera warnings
Then when your wife calls you to tell you she's shagging her dance instructor you can't here a word cause the bluetooth kit also hasn't got any speakers to use any more
So you install a new radio with new speakers... of course the new radio won't work cause in your eagerness to really remove all traces of the old BMW radio you also ripped out the antenna
I didn't bash the iPhone, all i said is that something similar has been available for windows mobile for sometime.
However thanks to the dearth of articles on the reg (and other places) reviewing winmo software (the most recent one they did had the 3 letter name of the publishing company wrong) there is the general perception that there is very little decent software for windows mobile.
Of course the appstore makes it easy, both customers looking for software and lazy hack journos trying to find something to write about without waiting for a press release to be emailed to them.
And I highly doubt you've ever used tube so i'll take your "it's shit" comment with a large pinch of salt
I just heard a certain experienced IT proffesional by the name of Sean Hughes complaining on You and Yours that his local job center were unable to find him a decent job and because of this he was now struggling to pay bills.
Hopefully this recession will convince the likes of him that working IT is too intellectually demanding and he'll piss off to teaching.
Seriously how can someone with such a lack of initiative expect to hold down anything but the most basic job in IT is beyond me.
