RE: tar dead

Pain killing drug kills pain?

There's a concept that will surely corrupt society to its very core. Its core I tells you!

I don't recall any hoo-hah about the similar idea in the Max Payne games ... does using a fictional/generic drug to counteract the effects of being shot not count as "rewarding" drug use with a "positive effect"?

<tangent>

Actually most of the recreational drugs I've come across have a (perceived) positive effect. Surely they're just showing it like it is? :)

</tangent>

A simple hack to change it to something other than "morphine" could do the trick (assuming they're being entirely transparent about the reason for the ban); rather like the use of green blood (etc) in games of yore.

Oh and @Andy Barber -- Godwin's Law invoked.

No, not the battery. Yeah, yeah I'll get it in a minute.

Just the other day I managed to pick up a (surprisingly) decent little Sagem on one of the better UK networks for £20 (including £10 mandatory top up). The battery was roughly 50% charged too.

Looks a helluva lot nicer (and smaller) than that colourful (-blind?) monstrosity.

What exactly are we paying for here? The convenience of a pre-fitted SIM?

RE: Huh?

I presumed what he was trying to say (rather ineloquently) was that when you're stoned, you tend to empathise more and get engrossed in things; the more feeble minded amongst us might not be able to "switch off". At least that's what I *think* he was getting at.

However, I've never, EVER known anyone to become violent when stoned, quite the opposite. More weed = more placid, at least in my not-inconsiderable experience... now if we were talking about alcohol...

But I digress.

My point is: yeah, he's a twat and clearly full of shit. :)

prices

As long as they're "part of the game" and unintrusive, I think I could just about live with it. Billboards adoring the course of a racing game are "normal", if they were dynamic they probably wouldn't disturb you any more or less. However, if they aren't in some way passing back the profits to the customer, IE by shaving a few quid off game prices (which, of course, I'm _sure_ they will *cough*) then they can get royally bent!

MSI unveils tiny eco-friendly desktop PC

bluesxman

quandry

The ports are better and worse than the ebox ... on the one hand it seems to have a better array of audio sockets, on the other it's got VGA rather than DVI; contrast that with ebox's solitary audio socket and DVI.

Having said that, the MSI does look a bit tatty compared to the sleek lines of the ebox (and the DVD drive I can live without); I'm sure one could plug a USB soundcard into the latter to fix the audio problem.

In a word iSHAFT, as they were affectionately known to staff when I worked there.

To the AC, in fairness to Accenture (also worked there) they may have had failings, but were royally shafted by the aforementioned software provider (who failed in the most basic of requirements, that is, to provide software). That said, they did over pay their contractors -- which I was most upset about :o)

No, seriously, what's the story here?

I can see the tree-killing Red Top headlines now -- "Astronauts in 'there might be aliens' shocka!" ... it's about as newsworthy as "Regular bloke in 'there might be a god' shocka!" ... albeit the former sounds a lot more likely ;o)

As for the mooted alien attacks, whilst I think it would be so ridiculously unrealistic to believe that life HASN'T evolved elsewhere in the universe, it's also ridiculously arrogant to believe that it's coming HERE.

PS3 won't beat Wii until 2011, forecasts analyst

bluesxman

@ Ian

"Whilst the Wii will never become a media player, the 360 has the download marketplace"

I concede the latter point to a degree and I grant you that Nintendo have stated that the current Wii hardware can't support DVD playback (whether I believe them or not is a whole other issue).

But how can you say with any measure of certainty that some future Wii software upgrade (or third party disc, more likely) won't allow you to hook a USB HDD to the USB port and/or stream XviD (etc) content from a network attached storage location, be it PC or whatever?

It's not like it won't play video at all even now ... it certainly plays video files I've recorded on my DigiCam, so (hopefully) it's not going to be a giant leap...

@ Paul Talbot

I'm afraid I have to pick you up on RE4 (though I've not played all of your list on the Wii).

I borrowed RE4 from a mate a couple or so months back. I can safely say (IMHO of course) that whilst it might be visually pleasing (and contrary to just about every review) the control system is a little broken. It's that, and that alone, which stops me dead in my tracks every time I think about having a play.

Well, more specifically one aspect of the control system. Oh wait, I think I can I hear the mantra rolling around my head even as I type ... "Why can't I strafe?" ... "WHY can't I STRAFE?" ... "WHY CAN'T I FVCKING* STRAFE?" (*that's the Latin spelling)

From what I'm given to understand strafing is lacking in all RE games ... with the close quarters combat style of gameplay inherent to the series, how in merry hell does that happen?

... well, it certainly bugs the living shit out of me.
