IBM invents printer that checks for copyrights

Re: prior art

It isn't "one document". First, it's more than a single currency, on our Ricoh, it does it with several, like US dollars, and others.

Then, the Euro bills were recently updated, their picture and color being substantially modified, and yet, it still recognizes them, without an update.

Re: Cue the mass demands for refunds.

Yup, the T&C are indeed clear on this, they have to refund if an offline mode was a reward they promised:

* Kickstarter does not offer refunds. A Project Creator is not required to grant a Backer’s request for a refund unless the Project Creator is unable or unwilling to fulfill the reward.

* Project Creators are required to fulfill all rewards of their successful fundraising campaigns or refund any Backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill.

No country has recognized Taiwan as a sovereign nation, not even the US.

Laurent

I think it might be because from the mainland viewpoint (and technically, from every other country's), there's no such thing as the ROC. There is only one China, the PRC, which happens to have a rebel province in Taiwan.

So any legal decision In Taipei might have some difficulty to be applied in Beijing if they feel like ignoring it.

Handling relations between mainland China and Taiwan must be a lot of fun now that they have so much economic interconnect.

100ml is only on this side of the Atlantic

Americans are much more careful, and unmetric. They allow 3oz, which is about 89ml. So you might be allowed to fly with your 100ml bottle one way, but it'll be confiscated when coming back..

French politicians vote non to voting machines

Finding people to count the votes

I agree with the previous posts. I'm also opposed to the use for voting of anything that can't be understood at a glance by every single voter.

I remember hearing on France Info, a few years ago for local elections, the mayor of La Rochelle (one of the first cities to use machines): he said that he did not understand how it worked, but he had a technician who did. So in that city, only one person actually had an idea of the way the system was rigged...

But there is also a real issue here: the lack of interest of voters in the actual counting. I've been volunteering to count the votes for every election in the last 5 years. In my place, for what, maybe 15000 registered voters, there are always enough, but not that many, about a dozen.

There are voting booths where there are not enough volunteers, and that is a real issue. If nobody's there, then the use of machines seems to be the only choice.
