Watt the f... Dim smart meters caught simply making up readings

Sounds like the combi boiler fiasco again. Replace an item that has run flawlessly for decades with a digital device that need replacing every two years at great expense.

Elephantine or not the tile interface is steadily being adopted by all systems. I like it.

I've seen the future of car radio - and DAB isn't in it

Doug Elliot

Admit it DAB is a turkey

DAB free? So is FM and far better quality and coverage. The expense of replacing all my radios make DAB very expensive and think of the mountain of electronic waste generated.

A Blast from the Past

Ah! Nascom 1 - my first computer kit. Started with just 1K of memory and eventually expanded to a massive 32K with Basic and a colour board all in a wooden case and driving and ex Post Office tellytypewriter as a printer. Programmed initially using op codes and a calculator to change into hex code. Things really took off with the BBC1 computer.

Also deleted my Favourites

I upgraded to IE11 on my W7 laptop and it wiped out my favourites and tabs.

Thankfully I only use IE for website testing.

Blighty's great digital radio switchover targets missed AGAIN

All the surveys I have taken on use of digital roll together DAB, digital TV and internet listening.

DAB is costly failure and will lead to huge expense and mountains of toxic electronic waste. Scrap any thought of switching of FM radio which has far better quality and range.

Alert

0.5 Richter?

There are dozens of low level tremors in the UK every year. With a 0.5 Richter limit the operators better tiptoe around the seismograph!

Scrap DAB not my AM/FM radios

I listen to 5Live on AM only because the BBC refuse to allocate it an FM frequency.

Scrapping millions of AM/FM radios to introduce second rate DAB is madness.

DAB Madness

Have they gone mad?

Why replace a high quality FM network and an ubiquitous AM network with an inferior service?

I have a DAB radio and the audio quality is appalling.

They also forget the enormous quantity of toxic electronic waste that scrapping millions of AM and FM radios, some parts of expensive hi-fi systems will generate.

Not to mention the fact that the system they are plugging will be obsolete by the time they get around to it.

Madness!

Force listeners onto DAB by killing FM

Doug Elliot
Thumb Down

This is Eco Madness

So they are teminating the AM frequencies? In this day of eco awareness, think of the millions of completely serviceable AM radios, clock radios and car radios that will be scrapped. Another electronics mountain, not forgetting the millions of pounds, energy and raw materials in providing DAB replacements.

I have DAB radio and I'm not convinced - the quality is crap compared to FM radio and the reception in shaded areas is nil.

What are they thinking?
