No doubt that this is very early in their research program. There would be no reason at all for this if audio/video return weren't planned. I imagine with miniaturization of the necessary electronics, there will be GPS, magnetometer, gyroscope, etc., perhaps even miniaturized Google Project Tango environment mapping at some point. Still, the use of beetles and other flying insects is only a temporary technology until fully synthetic tiny drones arrive. Some are already here, but their power requirement demands them to be wired currently. Beetles can probably go for kilometers or flitter about for hours without needing food or water.

Take note that it's called the Internet of ThingS, not Internet of Thing.

Being able to push management, control, communications, and coordination to the cloud...

...(1) frees up devices on the local network to focus on their specific task(s) and allows easy, easy development of "smart" homes, "smart" swarms, etc.

...(2) if a device has a particular type of sensor and streams its reading to the cloud, and devices with that particular type of sensor proliferate and also stream to the cloud in a common collective, new levels of "intelligence" can be imbued into devices with that sensor via Big Data analysis of all of the data streaming from hundreds to millions of sensors from around the world.

With management in the cloud, it frees all devices in the local network from having to be concerned about coordination and cooperation. All of that is pushed off to the cloud, thus making a "smart" home a snap and truly plug-n-play. Further, in the IoT paradigm, if a particular product proliferates, there can be some pretty amazing device "smarts" and "awareness" developed through Big Data analytics of all the data streaming from devices around the world.

Cortex-M7, please

A Cortex-M4 at 120 MHz is pretty good, but the newer generation Cortex-M7 would assure support for projects requiring extra oomph. Hopefully, the Cortex-M7 version won't be trailing too far behind.

Uh oh! Your comment puts you in the "uneducated" category.

You are confusing the Earth-Sun system with a binary star system.

Or...

You are confused regarding the notion of a "common center of mass" about which both bodies revolve. In a solar system, the center of mass will continually shift as the less massive bodies are continually trapped in the gravity well of their much more massive star, each lesser body slightly tugging on the star, thus continually shifting the common center of mass. ("center of gravity" is slightly different than "center of mass", but it is most common to calculate the center of mass solely from the masses of all bodies within the system and their instantaneous positions.)

"revolving about" means that one body's orbit about the common center of mass is primarily always outside the orbit of the center body.

"revolving about each other" means that both bodies very often cross the orbit of the other body.

Because the mass of the sun is so much greater than that of the Earth, the common center of mass is ALWAYS very close to the sun if not within the limb (visible bounds) of the sun. Therefore, the Sun's orbit about the common center of mass is EXTREMELY tiny compared to the orbit of the Earth's orbit about it. Therefore, the Earth ALWAYS revolves around our sun.

Delays... here comes Blu-ray 400GB+

BDXL is already available in in 100GB and 128GB capacities.

In December 2008, Pioneer Corporation unveiled a 400 GB capacity disc scheduled to be launched... NOW! Development is underway at Panasonic to have a 1TB capacity disc available by 2013.

In July of 2010, Sony and Tohoku University announced the joint development of a blue-violet laser, which will help in creating the 1TB capacity discs.

I'm hoping the best for InPhase, its remaining and former employees, but the delays have given room for other technologies to steal the market. Even if InPhase is capable of launching a 300GB format, that Blu-ray will beat them or trail them shortly with a 400GB capacity does not bode well for an unestablished brand and technology.

Nothing to do with intelligence...

Belief of any kind has very little to do with intelligence, but everything to do with the timing and kinds of exposure one has throughout their life.

The frequency and duration of exposure to particular messages during formative years, particularly from mentors and authority figures, and the lateness of exposure to plausible alternatives is the true benchmark for susceptibility for belief in something. Add to that the way a person chooses to tune their mind via their personal pursuits and you have the answer.

I agree with you completely as far as interfacing goes.

I've been telling folks for a couple of years now that all of our evolutions in communication (gestures, grunting, talking, music, writing, opera/plays, photos, radio, movies, telephone, tv, Internet, cellphone, online social networking, and implantable nano-transceivers - which exist, btw) have been steady efforts to get beyond the barrier of our skulls with the goal of sharing our minds and experiences as efficiently and with as much fidelity as possible.

As far as knowledge (awareness of information and its relation to other information, time, emotions, and other knowledge components), yeah, that's a tougher nut to crack. I don't think the key is implanting a "phat memory interceptor/recorder". That won't be necessary as all of the streams of public information will be wirelessly always on, accessible at TBps speeds, and pre-correlated.

That then would be the equivalent of a Google search, but the one with 30 years of advancement behind it which would certainly include all of the benefits of the "semantic" web as well as other yet to be conceived advances.

Beyond a nano-transceiver, the other implanted device (actually nano devices) is an "attention minder" that figures out the nuances of the mechanics of your brain's attention centers. Once in place, your very process of thinking will trigger fine-tuned queries to the public store and the information gathered there will be correlated with the information in focus and signaled as instantaneous associated memories (or knowledge) ready for further "recall". Its further coincidental functions will be as an InstaTwitter helping to rachet up the noise on Twitter by many orders of magnitude, and as a continuous "life" streamer to lifeTube with all other sensory and emotional data encoded and embedded in the stream.

Surely this won't happen in 30 years. It'll take at least 31 for all of that.
