Engineers are troublesome 'expert loners', says prof

W. Buckles

Is this the Best of Breed?

This guy sounds like he got his education somewhere way to the east before 1989. The skillset he likes reminds me of the East-bloc refugees I interviewed in the '90s.

Still, I love the title: The Enactment-Externalization Dialectic: Rationalization and the Persistence of Counter-Productive Technology Design Practices in Student Engineering. Hitting all the right notes - Dialectic - great word, but Hegelused it better. Then there are the conjoined words (two!), and the nice alliteration (En-En - a song in my heart!). I could go on but I might get ill.

Maybe this guy belongs in the Department of Deconstruction.

This is the classic 'everything you learned is wrong' approach - Woody Allen did it much better in Sleeper back in 1972, but let's take it from the top:

Break the project into parts - we are taught to do this, but now it's BAD.

Listen to our elders - we are taught to do this, but now it's BAD.

Solve problems for yourself - no comment.

Glad I went to school before they realized all these things were bad - I don't think my career would have lasted a year, much less thirty (and counting).

Why Microhoo! is like, so, totally dead

W. Buckles

I! didn!t! know!

Shocking!

This all happened while I was on a survival course in the upper Sonoran desert, where the chicken tasted like rattlesnake and the chocolates tasted like crunchy scorpions. All were dusted with, well, dust.

Good for the body and soul, and, needless to say, tres unplugged.

I return to Web 2.0 and Now! This!

I'm heading back to the desert. Maybe something else good will happen.
