RE: Bin dun

In one short sentence you summed up everything that is wrong with Mac fans. So you're happy to pay more for something with no additional spec/functionality simply because it looks prettier? When 9 times out of 10 it will probably be tucked away in a corner or a cupboard etc? (I'm not saying this is the case for all Mac products by the way, some of them really are superior. But in many cases, such as this, they aren't)

BMW driver follows satnav to edge of cliff

Only BMW drivers?

I'd say at least half the drivers on our roads are morons, regardless of the car they drive.

Mind you, probably half of the comments on this story are the hilarious "typical BMW driver" or similar - possible strong correlation?

Apple plays catch-up with new iPhone features

@MMS?

If Apple prioritised email/data over MMS then why did the first gen iPhone only support 1990's data speeds? (i.e. GPRS not 3G/HSDPA)

Perhaps it was so they could bend all their loyal customers over by bringing out a 3G version later.

UK kids presenter gets online support

@David Barrett

I'm not sure, but I *think* Steve is referring to kids, and is therefore joking.

Honda shows off Insight hybrid

Tom

Why?

As several people have already pointed out you can get diesels that get very close to, or even exceed, this consumption. My BMW 123d Coupe will do over 60mpg urban, but outputs 200bhp instead of 80-something! Plus it looks a lot nicer.

Boss frogmarches bound employee to cop shop

Tom

@EvilJason

"Before anyone tries to defend the bosses right to do what he did remember he took it upon himself to be police,judge,juror,and executor of punishment of the law BEFORE any investigation either private or by the police was done."

It sounds to me like he only took it upon himself to be the Police - he just effectively arrested him and took him to the Police station, he didn't send him to court or to prison. People get arrested on suspicion of having done something all the time - if fact that's all they ever get arrested for, it's only suspicion until it has been proven in court! I agree that making an example of him around town was too much though, but seems like the lesser of 2 evils.

Don't drink coffee whilst reading The Reg

The proportion of bootnotes or BOFH stories on this site that have an amusing comment along the lines of "you owe me a new monitor/keyboard" in the comments section is surprisingly high - I really thought people would have learned by now not to read The Reg and drink coffee at the same time.

Turkish court bans Dawkins' website

Tom

@Need to be specific to be correct

Need to be a pedant to deem my comment incorrect. I think it's fair to say that from the context it was quite clear I was referring to Niko Tinbergen.

Tom

@Dawkins explained

Are you sure about that? A significant number of Dawkins' observations/arguments/examples are taken from the field of behavioural ecology. No mice, petri dishes or labs required. And you can't really accuse anyone that studied under Tinbergen of not being a biologist.

Apple iPhone 3G

Tom

@ Chad H.

Seriously, you think that was a flame!? I was simply politely answering the question "Who uses MMS?" with "I do, as it's cheaper than SMS when abroad on my network". I also have 'unlimited' 'free' data, but good luck using it abroad without fierce charges.

Tom

RE: MMS - come on, who actualy uses that aged 13 or over?

I do - for some reason on T-Mobile MMS is actually cheaper than SMS when roaming abroad.

BD vs downloads

Lots of comments on here (on previous Blu-Ray stories) say that they'll ignore Blu-Ray and wait for HD downloads. But am I the only one that thinks that HD downloads for the masses on our (ok, BT's) archaic infrastructure is just a little far-fetched?

Mozilla guns for Guinness world record with Firefox 3.0

Tom

@Unlimited

So 2.0.0.14 means the 14th build since V2 was released? I'm not convinced. I know that's what it's supposed to mean, but surely it really should be 2.14 as there have been 14 minor updates.

Sony promises 27in OLED screen

Tom

@Andy

One of the main advantages of OLED over LCD is acceptance angle - the colours do not change as you view the screen from different angles. I believe this is because LCD requires a backlight and OLED doesn't.

GTA IV PS3 fights off resolution woes in the UK

Tom

@Liam

Sorry, mine was a tongue-in-cheek reaction to an earlier comment regarding Plasma vs LCD. I wasn't actually suggesting buying a 42" OLED, mainly because no-one has made one! I was arguing that although plasmas have their advantages over LCDs, the price increase probably isn't worth it for modern LCDs.

Tom

@Mark

Since when has a plasma TV been a "proper one". Plasmas are for cheapskates who can't afford an OLED.

OLEDs are less blurry, more vibrant, (admittedly don't last longer) and and have a much better viewing angle.

Sorry.. ;-)

Or, of course, you could take price vs benefit into account and just go for an LCD that is significantly cheaper than a plasma without being greatly inferior. And to be honest i very much doubt a plasma would out-last an LCD anyway.
