Malware not man blamed in child abuse download case

@RickyTheRiot

LOL, is Ricky still reading this?

Cos the next stage of this guilty until proven innocent has already been demonstrated in the Middle East.

You could easily substitute WMDs in there for the child porn images.

The fact that we are all IT literate (plenty of logs at El Reg to show this) and have no evidence of Child Porn on our computers is evidence of our nefarious behaviour and our expertise in hiding them!

In fact Ricky probably wants to know if either of the investigators was any relation to Hans Blick.

Big screens benefit the most

Hmmm, from some Inquiring sites, the early numbers seem to suggest that it's the big screens that get the biggest benefit. So if you are still on your 19" monitor with a maximum resolution of 1280x1024, the upgrade would hardly be worth it.

Then again, the people that can afford the 30" screens that benefit the most are the ones most likely to be able to afford one of these cards anyway!

I wonder if ATI will be doing the same as they did at the last launch and concentrating on volume as opposed to Top Dog. The card that is the Top Dog typically costs Top Dollar, and as I said, it's the people that have the big house that has the large room for large monitors that buys the Top Dog card. So in terms of earnings, I think the lesser cards are what makes the company coffers less empty.

However, the cynic in me still thinks that if ATI could have shot for Top Dog they would have....

PS: I'm a PC gaming fan with a 24" monitor with a self specced Crysis killer machine (heh, my machine lost to the beast that is Crysis!) but the whole Console and HD thang is most definitely going to be my next purchasing focus.

Crysis? Smysis?

For all you non-gamers out there, the "Crysis" gamers frequently refer to is a particularly hardware thrashing game that actually delivers on all the Wattage being consumed.

For the complete lowdown, go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crysis

But for a brief flavour of how hard it thrashes your hardware, most hardware reviewers post frames per second in the high 90s for most games of today (from Half Life 2 onwards) with a reasonable graphics output of 1600x1200 with all the graphical bells and whistles turned on.

Crysis barely managers 30fps and that's also with the output toned down to 1280x1024. Rack the display output up to the 1600x1200 and we start seeing <10 fps.

BTW 30 frames per second is seen as the bare minimum for a First Person Shooter.

So it'll be interesting to see how this new card and also ATI's one fare against the "Crysis" experience.

Seals

According to Richard Marcinko's autobiography, SEALs can't have moustaches because of the face mask.

I don't know how much difference it makes in a high altitude environment because I can see how for SEALs, there would be water coming in which would either make you clear the mask (making for bubbles which defeats the object of having a rebreather) or impaired vision.

Do we have anyone with high altitude experience with imperfect air masks?

Move along, same old, same old...

Damn, from the article, it seems we're going with the "tried and tested" water cooled reactors.

I thought we might, like China and South Africa, be getting some of the new Pebble Based Reactors which as an offshoot of the higher operating temperatures, seem to offer some form of Hydrogen generation so would that be doubly green?

They also have some built in limitation on reaction inherent in the design so that the response in an emergency is not a nail biting countdown of which vessel to flush/vent, but to kickback and have a pizza (or should that be donut) whilst the core hits a stable temperature on it's own.

Oh well, given this government's track record with any large project from the Olympics to Warships, if anyone can make a Pebble Bed Reactor go critical, it will be them anyway!

One sec ...asked to leave the plane cos her bag was lost...

Whilst I am no fan of Clueless Super Models, every story I've happened to come across (honestly not sought them out!), says the same facts....

she is going to a memorial service

she arrived early with 2 bags

she is reassured the bags will make it

a bag is lost and she is informed

the only option we are told she is given to get the bag, is to get off the plane (and presumably be late for the memorial service?)

police arrive to enforce the leaving bit

Naomi does her thing

I don't know if she really needed what was in that bag (she presumably could buy anything she needed in LA!) but I can't believe that BA told her that she had to get off to get the bag!

"I'm sorry, your bag isn't going to make it, please get off." isn't the usual line is it?

I think we're missing a bit of the story here....
