Apple's Tim Cook and Salesforce's Marc Benioff DECLARE WAR on anti-gay Indiana

W. Anderson

Re: "This is why this law is needed": industry move out of Indiana

In USA and Indiana, when business applies for license to serve "the Public", it undertakes the responsibility to abide by and honour that license conditions.

If the business owner really feels obliged not to serve Gays or blacks for example according to their religion, they have no right for acquiring such "Public Service License"

They can always start a religious "retreat" with food service and other services for non-gays, non-blacks and any other despised persons according to their religion.

Do that instead.

W. Anderson

industry move out of Indiana

One of the most potent challenges to the idiotic law recently passed in Indiana would be for very large independent shareholders of Subaru Automotive, maunfactured in that State to threaten or actually sue Subaru for remaining there with harsh treatment and detrimental effects on company's gay employees in public services.

Only with this type potential strong action, of Subaru or other large manufacturer moving completely out of Indiana to jurisdiction like Mexico and devastate economy of the state, will Indiana and all the other homophobic and hateful states realize their stupidity.

Appeal court bombshell: Google must face British justice for 'Safari spying'

W. Anderson

finally some justice

It is hoped that the plaintiffs in UK are successful in obtaining hundreds of millions of pounds in compensations from Google, as this is the "only" type of deterent that large oppressive technology companies like Google, Microsoft and others, even Apple to understand and which is effective in getting them to stand down from illegal, unethical and draconian actions.

Tennessee sues FCC: Giving cities free rein to provide their own broadband is 'unlawful'

W. Anderson

States as pawns of Telcos

I suspect the Tennessee State Attorney General and State Legislators have an alternative political agenda, directed by Comcast.

What would be the State's position if Chattanooga allowed the "private" Google to setup the City and surronding areas broadband with 70% less costs than would go to Comcast?

Unfortunately many of these states are completely in pocket of Telcos like Compcast, Verizon and AT&T, and are willing to allow these telecomms/Internet services monopolies to milk the State dry for the personal financial enrichment of ruling politicians.

AT&T, Verizon and telco pals file lawsuit to KILL net neutrality FOREVER

W. Anderson

This action bt Telcos is not unexpected.

What is so obvious is that is most other developed nations, Net Neutrality type regulations have actually helped these jurisdictions operate more freely, and Internet access quality and rates for business, government and citizens are better than in USA - by every measure, which is supposedly the "Greatest Nation on Earth" (sic).

Claim: Microsoft Alt-F4'd Chilean government open-source install bid

W. Anderson

Chilean subservience to Imperial Greed is assured

There is also no proof that Microsoft did not pay-off Chilean politicians to oppose the bill, on threat of funding their opposition and wrecking Chile's economy, much like the NRA Gun Lobby bought and subjected politicians to oppose "sensible" Gun registration regulations here in USA.

Equal consideration for Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) as viable alternative to proprietary software in quality, reliability, security and Rerturn-on-Investment (ROI) should "never" be a political football.

For Chileans to fall prey to the Mafioso style blackmail and intimidation tactics used substantially in Italy and here in USA, means that country is signing it's economic independence death certificate.

Previously there was Monsanto, US Based Tobacco companies and now draconian, bullying tactics fron technology corporations. South and Central America is further reduced to backward banana republics, controlled by money and subservience to greedy, oppressive "Capitalistic" behemoths.

VMware wants amicable end to 'meritless' Linux-lifting lawsuit

W. Anderson

VMWare will probabl lose their false defence

What is so sad and sickening about one aspect of this VMWare lawsuit is that several Microsoft worshipping idiots have contacted me refering to the inevitability of GPL and FOSS goin down the tube - so to speak - which would be a signiicant benefit to Microsoft in their tiny little dysfunctional minds.

Why has FOSS technolog in business cretaed such antagonistic and draconian positions and behavior from many people? I am fully aware of the heights to which Microsoft itself went in early 2000s to denigrate and disparage Linux and FOSS, een resorting to outrageous lies and false representations in their rhetoric in print, TV and on Internet.

I just did not expect millions of Microsoft worshippers to take such balone to heart still in 2015.

This ISN'T Net Neutrality. This is Net Google. This is Net Netflix – the FCC's new masters

W. Anderson

no factual support or reason fo this article

The article author has a very skewed and bias view - in favour of the large Internet infrastructure carriers, who have shown and been proven over and over again to be oppressive, deceitful, conduct "illegal" activities, and many other actions that so far cannot be attributed to Google, Facebook, Twotter - at least no where near level of carrier bullies behavior.

4 to 6 millions citizen with same viewpoints, supported by most "all" other networking companies, including Google, Facebook, Netflix, etc can' be that wrong.

Bwsides which, Comcast, Verizon, AT&T et al, can just as easily setup similar services in competition to Google and Facebook any time they wish. In fact they aleady have.

This article is therefore a scare tactic or just another crass attempt to grab more readers.

Google gives spit n' polish to world's most expensive Chromebook

W. Anderson

Finally, an excellent, indisputable challenger to MacBook Pro/Air and Surface Pro 3

Google has mad it diffiult for mere peons like myself who cannot afford or justify purchase of this very good machine.

What is most tempting however is fact that Linus Torvalds used an Original Chromebook Pixel modified to support Gentoo Linux, on which ChromeOS is based. With that type combination on new model, neither the top MacBook Pro/Air nor Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (still runs Swiss cheese security and broken Windows OS) even comes close.

Microsoft comes right out and says backup software is dead

W. Anderson

Civility and some honesty from Microsoft. What gives?

Crappy excuses have taken a turn to more nuanced admissions from Microsoft.

No more denial rants and competitor dissing like those from Steve Ballmer?

$250K: That's what Lenovo earned to rat you out with Superfish

W. Anderson

Re: Heads will roll?

If commenter jojack is like most citizens, especially those in Western countries, he will probably have forotten about the Superfish debacle in a few months - a symptom of Attention Deficit Syndrome (ADS) suffered by hundreds of millions - and would probably run to purchase next new Gee-Whiz! Lenovo introduced with some supposedly unusual feature.

I have witnessed this malady many times with all types and categories of technology clients over past twenty plus years.

EU governments are CRAP at cloud, moans Brussels' infosec watchdog

W. Anderson

Not developed here (in EU) problem?

The results of this report are baffling, particularly because a great deal or most of the best Cloud Services technologies - like OpenStack, Cloudstack, Docker Containerization, etc, including Cloud Management and Operating Sstem infrastructure software like Linux is Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) which would not place any burden on the European Union in regards to costs or quick adoption and mastering of these great and innovative (Internationally developed) technologies.

Maybe it's the language barrier for non-English speaking countries! :(

FCC says cities should be free to run decent ISPs. And Republicans can't stand it

same 'ole Southern states policies

It is unsurprising and somewhat ironic that North Carolina and Tennessee congresspersons would take position and actions as stated here - in article: "".. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and House rep Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) proposed legislation to Congress on Friday to undo the FCC's decision. “It is disturbing, yet not surprising, that the FCC and Chairman [Tom] Wheeler are attempting to deny the sovereign right of states to make their own laws,” said Senator Tillis." - as these same type sentiments were expressed in full and strong support for retaining slavery in those same states.

It seems the USA has made very little progress toward policies and laws that are to the betterment of society overall, and instead cling to practices that benefit (includin financially) only the few - slave owners then for free labour and greedy Internet carriers now.

The fact that Western developed nations and others in Asia and elsewhere are ahead of USA in quality high speed, unrestricted Internet access are reasonable rates due to their early adoption of core "Net Neutrality regulations, should give Americans pause in supporting and remaining dupes for these goliath, predatory and greedy Internet "carrier" Services providers.

Lenovo: We SWEAR we're done with bloatware, adware and scumware

W. Anderson

How quickly the public will forget

Of one thing Lenovo and most other companies, technology or otherwise is "full aware of", consimers and even business in USA, UK and other jurisdictions suffer from a severe case of Attention Deficit Sndrome (ADS) and will quickly have forgotten the 'Superfish' scandal, when Windows 10 is released for consumption.

The the company can then proceed to install or allow installation of "even more" and dangerous bloatware. Go Lenono! Stick it to them.

Net neutrality victory: FCC approves 'open internet' rules in 3-2 vote

W. Anderson

draconian, greedy monopolies should be a thing of the past

Those citizens, community organizations, Internet "content" providers and others who resist monopolistic gouging of the public by greedy, draconian Internet Iinfrastructure carriers like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and others are intimately familiar with the "core issues" contained in this ruling.

This type ruling in favour of eliminating pay-more-for-already-paid-service speaks to lack of same in the past that produced a poor rating for USA internet users value as compared to other Western developed and some Asian nations, who are speeding ahead of USA in this area of unfettered Internet access with reasonable rates for any quality of Internet access

NO ONE is making money from YouTube, even Google – report

W. Anderson

Youtube not idiot viewing, article author statement is.

There are many organizations, institutions ans school systems for whom Youtube in an indispensible resource for publishing their content to a very wide audience. Even many technology or educational instructional videos are available only on Youtube.

Jut this week I was able to view the performances of various singing groups that I liked from the past - 1970s through 1990s - on Youtube, which would have been otherwise impossible, so the article author's characterization of Youtube as an "idiot viewing platform" really indicates how idiotic he/she really is.

$533 MEEELLION – the cost of Apple’s iTunes patent infringement

W. Anderson

crocadile tears

Companies like Apple only consider, or say they consider steps to "fix" the broken software patent system in USA, only now that they have been the victim. Up to this point Apple, IBM, Microsoft and othes were quite happy and driven to support "RockStar" Patent Trolling company that they established in attempt to extort tens of billions of $$$dollars from Google or stop Google dead in it's tracks.

Such supposed chane of heart and/or bigoted position should make most technology users cringe in their skins.

Unless and until "software" patents are eliminated or vastly restricted, the USA will suffer significantly due to penalty of these ridiculous patents on small inovative entities not being able to compete with the oppressive behemoths. Apple is now reaping what it has sewn.

Apple design don Jony Ive: Build-your-own phone is BOLLOCKS

W. Anderson

"Presently", the customization that Motorola offers for it's smartphones is limited to choices of back cover colour and material type - silver metal or colour plastic for bezel. Such sensible options in no way diminishes the quality of value for Motorola smartphones, as perople like my wife - who was a Corporate Interior Designer and exceled in Graphic Arts as a hobby, prefer these Artistic choices.

One commenter has link to Video where Steve Jobs dismissed the Android based 7" tablets, only to produce them later. What is ironic about the non-sensical view taken by Jon Ivy and by Jobs - re preferable tablet size is his reference to Microsoft Windows as an "Open Platform" because of multiple manufacturer support which is ridiculous, since Apple iOS and OS X as well as Windows are strictly "proprietary" and not open in any sense.

Unfortunately these technology icons continually insult people's intelligence by making stuoid statements in support of theie myopic and financially beneficial viewpoints.

IBM drops patent bomb on Priceline.com

W. Anderson

What most commenters here miss is the whole insane and idiotic issue of software patents in the first place, grantedin most instances based on logical actions rather some innovative way of process.

One of the most prominent and respected Intellectual Property Attorneys in USA - covering Trademarks, Patents and Copyright indicated - with full support of large swarthwes of colleagues - that the issuance of software patents in USA - which are being reviewed or blocked completely in other developed nations, is so ludicrous by an inept US Patent Office that is is theoratically legal for an applicant to apply for patent on how human beings and mammals breathe, thus subjecting any and all persons in USA to patent proyalty payments for breathing.

Note that USA patent office accepst patent applications , not based of firsrt creator/developer, but first entity to apply for patent, irregardless of any assocoation to patent in question.

This is description - to an extreme - of the stupidity of software patents, which will negatively affect techology software innovation in USA, and to advantage of software development in other compeeting jurisdictions.

Let freedom RING! Americans can now legally liberate phones from axis of network evil

W. Anderson

some positive changes

The only downside to these news laws affect Carriers in USA, like AT&T previously being the only source for "new" Samsung Galaxy Alpha smartphone that I can now use (properly unlocked) on T-Mobile.

Cudos to President Obama and those legislators that heeded the mass opbections to draconian regulations that hurt consumers.

Microsoft: It's TIME at LAST. Yes - .NET is going OPEN and X-PLATFORM

W. Anderson

Microsoft square peg in Round hole technology world

It is incredulous for Microsoft and it's supported development community to believe that developers for Free/ Open source Software (FOSS) tools in Java, OpenStack Cloud Computing, KDV/Xen Virtualization, Apache Hadoop big data analytics and other development like Docker Containerization will want to transition to Windows development platform when every one of these FOSS projects senior development managers have stated quite unambiguously that their software is developed and runs more reliably, more efficiently - faster, more scalable and flexible, with far less bugs and base OS security vulnerabilities on Linux or BSD UNIX-like than any Microsoft foundation development environment.

I applaud Microsoft CEO Mr. Nardella on his aims of embracing the FOSS” type” development model, probably through his many years experience as a true technologist, but the Microsoft hegemony of software development has always been very strictly proprietary and non-compliant to Open, International standards, and it would take years without any guarantee of success to amalgamate the Microsoft kludge systems to new standard of (true - as defined by fsf) FOSS development.

All that stale Microsoft baggage just won't fit in.

Ubuntu smartphone to go on sale: It'll be harder to get than a new iPhone

W. Anderson

I wish Ubuntu Smartphones and parent Ununtu much success in it's iintroduction of Ubuntu One devices. This represents a refreshing and technically innovative alternative to the Android and Apple iOS homogony that controls the marketplace. Microsoft Windows smartphones are "verified" as losing marketshare, and the proprietary Windows development tools of yesteryear are past their prime of relevance.

Any Ubuntu smartphone with similar hardware specifications as Motorola Moto-X 2nd generation in competitive price range will guarantee sale to me and 3 other family members.

SPITTLE SPATTER as America weighs into FCC net neut shoutgasm

W. Anderson

It is not surprising that the debate on Net Neutrality in the USA may have devolved into a shouting match, when common sense, "fact based" reports and a 'national' desire for citizen and business competitive use of the Internet would clearly show that the large common carriers like Verizon, AT&T, Compcast, Time-Warner and their deceitful propaganda machines and dupe mouth-pieces - have made proven false claims and broken promises for destroying even the mere principle of Net Neutrality in the interest of their own own greedy and draconian financial gains.

Fortunately most of the G20 countries and other nations are or have moved along to "protecting" their Internet infrastructure in the interest and well being of citizens and their entire countries, by fully supporting most all aspects of Net Neutrality.

Windows is TAKING the TABLET market... what's left of it, anyway

W. Anderson

Deceptive article title and convoluted reasoning for statement

If Microsoft is "taking" the Tablet Market, even in reference to "What's left of it", the reality of Microsoft tablets achieving a puny 2.3 percent shouls cause use of the word "taking".

I sincerely hope Paul Kunert is not one of the many Microsoft 'zealots' posing as a technology article writer in disquise, but is usual Microsoft dupe without any credible technical knowledge or understanding of reality in Mobile or any other apect of technology industry today.

Why Windows 10 on Raspberry Pi 2? Upton: 'I drank the Kool-Aid'

W. Anderson

Obviously Mr. Upton has received considerable monies from Microsoft in this Windows 10 to Rasberry Pi 2 project.

However he goes too far by stating that Microsoft Azure and Security are the strongest (in the industry) ever!! How patronizing and proven false is that when one of the premier and respected Cloud Computing research and analysis organizations reported in January 2015 that Azure had "by far" the most outages - some by hacking - in 2014 than any other major Cloud Computing vendor.

It seem that many technology companies and leading technologists are quite willing and content in this new era to prostitute themselves and their company's mission just for gobs of money and more notoriety, even when there is a distinct and direct conflict with the original and long term goals and visions, particularly if Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) was a critical and integral component of the project.

Sorry, admins: Microsoft says NO new Windows Server until 2016

W. Anderson

more FOSS adoption by Microsoft

What is so incredulous about the mindset of most Microsoft dupes is that they forever denigrate Linux, BSD, Darwin based Apple OS X and all other Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) technology with incoherent drivel criticisms, yet Microsoft marches on with recently announced support for another FOSS application - in Docker Containerization, to add to Hadoop and other Apache Big Date tools, FreeBSD Networking Stack, Akamai Linux for Windows desktop upgrades and several other world beating FOSS technologies, without which Microsoft would probably have to close shop in this modern Cloud and Mobile technology age.

GoDaddy in doghouse over puppy-flogging Super Bowl ad

W. Anderson

Unfortunately the pulled Ad is in the crude Go-Daddy style of showing Hooters type clad young ladies in previous SuperBowl Ads, which is particularly weird for an supposedly credible Internet Services Provider (ISP) technology firm, and makes one perplexed as to why any person, small or large business or organization would wish to do business with a company that exhibits such crass, idiotic mentality.

YouTube flushes Flash for future flicks

W. Anderson

Adobe greed and stupidity to blame

If Adobe had not been so arrogant and stupid about trying to "lock" all Web users into incessantly buggy and broken (proprietary) Flash software, and made Flash "genuinely" Free/Open Source Software (FOSS), it is quite possible and probable that the very innovative FOSS "Community" would have updated and revised Flash of today as a truly incredible software application.

The one baffling aspect of any discussion on Flash technology is why the Linux Foundation has welcomed Adobe into it's folds while at the very same time, Adobe had taken a poisonous view ant attutude toward FOSS and Linux in particular, in regard almost refusing to support the platform.

Right, we've bagged IBM’s X86 server biz... now what? – Lenovo

W. Anderson

Lenovo's follow on of supporting only Microsoft Windows in it's new x86 Server and Storage line - like their desktop PC policy, is contrary to IBM's position of support for the popular and growing OS software foundations, like highly demand Suse and RedHat Enterprise Linux offerings, and will certainly put them at a distinct disadvantage for supporting more broadly preferred Amazon AWS or OpenStack Cloud Computing Services, Virtualization and Docker Containerization -all Linux based technologies - and in same proprietary box with the other "Me Too" Windows only back benchers.

Welcome to Spartan, Microsoft's persuasive argument for... Chrome

W. Anderson

The fact that the "new" Spartan and Internet Ecplorer (IE) browsers still run on Windows OS base only puts them at a distinct disadvantage againct Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox which not only support latest Web/HTML standards and are substantially more reliable and secure, but are Multi-platform - supporting Apple iOS/OS X, Android, Windows, Linux and even Tizen and other Linux based mobile OS that are entering the marketplace. My Blackberry even supports Chromium.

Why on earth would any intelligent technology user want to retain the ultimate lock-in and unreliable/insecure Web tecnology from Microsoft? None!!

Adobe finds, patches ANOTHER exploited Flash 0day

W. Anderson

It is unfortunate that so much of Internet/Web software and services were designed to work only on Flash. Hopefully implementations of HTML5 will progress quickly to provide a far superior and less disastrous bug-ridden solution than is Flash.

Adobe is idiotic in not Open Sourcing Flash many years ago, and it is mind-boggling that the Linux Foundation has accepted Adobe as a member/sponsor while the company refused to officially support all Free/Open Source Software (FOS) Operating Systems - Linux and BSDs..

Apple did the right thing. Abandon the crappy software all together.

Top US privacy bod: EU should STOP appeasing whiny consumers

W. Anderson

There is no doubt that the US (government) approach of appeasing large corporations in regard to less protection of user data for their purely capitalistic gains, is generally quite the opposite as compared to the European Union position of more individual data protection in the interest of common sense and pragmatism. This differences illustrate personal quality of life issues between the two continents.

Everything done in USA is based on making maximum profit from data on citizens, even allowing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Website to provide private companies with individuals personal health records information for crass monitization and exploitation. (sic).

Microsoft just saved Windows Phone... Now stop whining

W. Anderson

The article author needs to explain how he/she knows that the latest "planned" programs from Microsoft axtually "saved" Windows phone business from "continued" slide downwards, especially since no concrete - in reality - steps have been taken in that regard.

Even at recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Nevada - generally considered a bellweather of upcoming technology innovation, there were less than an handfull - probably one or two - of announced products and services that support the Windows mobile platform, out of thousands presented. How depressing is that for Microsoft support!!

Extrapolating "wishes" and hyperbole into false reality has been Microsoft's and the company's tech publishing propagandists smoke 'n mirrors tactics for too long, since few listen to this nonsence any longer.

You'll get sick of that iPad. And guess who'll be waiting? Big daddy Linux...

W. Anderson

The article writer is positing his Linux desktop proposition squarely at the USA experience, since several country governments, regions and cities in Europe and South America in particular, some in Asia and Africa are presently and have deployed Linux and BSD UNIX-like based desktops very successfully and productively for some time now.

It is important to state and keep perspective on this topic, unless one has a very Anglo-USA and myopic viewpoint.

DAMN YOU! Microsoft blasts Google over zero-day blabgasm

W. Anderson

Those commenters supporting Microsoft on this issue have no proof (what-so-ever) that Microsoft did actually plan a fix for said bug on January 13th when stated, or that Microsoft did ask Google to delay information release.

Microsoft has a long and well documented history of lying and deceit about these type matters, and until the company can provide verified proof of good intentions in regard it's communications with Google or any oter strong competitor, I and most other intelligent and reasonable consumers (not Microsoft dupes and goof balls) should not make quick and probably false judgement against those entities that Microsoft virulently hates and considers "a cancer" for no logical or sane reasoning.

Lenovo: We now OWN IBM's shrinking Euro server biz. It's OURS!

W. Anderson

Lenovo's x86 Server software policy tied inextricably to Microsoft may not serve them well in Europe where there is a significant push for and adoption rate of Linux and other Free/Open Source Software (FOSS), and Microsoft will probably be reluctant to allow the company aly leeway in going off tract, or the software reservation.

Arrogance in play

Ms. Moussouris has no knowlede that the French Customs Agent exceeded their authority, and it's incredulous that many comments on this article chose to denigrate the French - in this instance, and many other non-USA or Non-British authorities about such national matters from perspective of gross arrogance and probable ignorance.

Any UK negative commerters on the French in this case need to understand clearly that Americans generally consider them to be just as doofus on matters of technology or government policy when US citizens face situations in UK they do not like or appreciate, and do not understand. That (false) superiority complex or "American Exceptionalism" mentality in play.

Such is the state of crass diplomatic attitudes, particularly emminating from those West of Atlantic Ocean, and between Canada and Mexico.

US Companies privac and security antics

It would be prudent for Facebook to have the Irish PDA verify that it's new privacy policies do comply with that country's regulations, otherwise most astute world citizens could very well conclude that Facebook, and Google with their smoke 'n Mirrors tactics are attemptin to delude the EU citizens and authorities, much like they have done in USA for many years.

Unfortunately for these corporations, most other countries' citizens are not as gullible and naive as populace here in USA.

Sony FINGERS DDoS attackers for ruining PlayStation's Xmas

W. Anderson

It seems that Sony is trampled upon every which way they turn.

Unfortunately for them, much of their calamatous situation is much deserved.

Black audiennces throughout the USA and internationally should completely boycott viewing any Sony entertainnment, articularly through the exposure of a baack TV show female lead o star receiving a substantially lower salary compared to her white co-star.

The company has committed many other asinine business and anti-social practices, but one of the more telling facts of the completely stupid thinking and attidues of Sony is found in a technology use and licensing case.

The Sony Playstation 4 uses as it's software base the FreeBSD UNIX/Like Operating System (OS) software - similar in functional concept to Apple OS X, Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux. Sony pays "Nada" - no fees or licensing cost for FreeBSD as its Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) but absolutely refuses to provide the APIs that allow FreeBSD based desktops OS to use Blu-Ray DVD player technology.

Sony uses the incredible FreeBSD, but won't let FreeBSD computers t use Blu-Ray DVd players.- -

How utterley selfish and totally greedy is that!!

Ireland: Hey, you. America. Hands off Microsoft's email cloud servers

Limited and skewed perspectives expressed

Two pertinent perspectives missing from many of the comments to this article are:

(a) most assume that possible decision ramifications in this case will be restricted to Europe "only", and

(b) that European and other International jurisdictions are "easy pushovers" for complying with US Government "strong Arm" political/diplomatic tactics.

There is good evidence from the reactions of many very large International organizations and companies, as well as governments that there is likely to be a great shift"away from" use of "US" owned and/or controlled Data Centers and ISPs, even in foreign locations.

If the US Congress revises Trade/Communications and International treaty laws (unilaterally) to allow demand of data from any entity in USA that communicates overseas, then everyone in the world must wait to see what such imperialistic moves might produce.

Most Americans unfortunately have a very limited worthwhile experience or good understanding of the "realities" that exist in 2014 - 2015 regarding their own country's practical and true (fact based) relationship to the rest of the globe, and make assumptions and decisions - many times erroneous - based solely on US media reports and 'bravado' rhetoric of their politicians/diplomats and talking heads as reported by said US media.

Reality could not be more different.

Android gives Google a search monopoly? Not so fast, says judge

W. Anderson

anti-Google crazies coming out of the woodwork

Most of the commenters here arguing that Google is "automatically" guilty as per the Anti-Trust claim are blowing smoke out of their rear ends.

The plaintiffs have produced - according to the judge - absolutely no evidence what-so-ever by deposition from any Android "consumer" user that these users have no ability or wish to change their Search Engine.

My 14 years of age grand-daughter changed hers in about 30 seconds, without any instruction or advice from anyone.

It is clear that the nay-sayers against Google in this instance are decidedly Microsoft dupes. Not one of the approximately 35 persons using iPhones or new Blackberry smartphones with whom I have spoken hve any complaints about search engine option selection in Android.

I do not own or support Android smartphone. am tired of the constantant idiocy in The Register and ZDNet from Redmond loonies and their legal dupes.

Vendor lock-in is truly a TERRIBLE idea ... says, er, Microsoft

W. Anderson

The statement that John Gossman thinks "agility and portability are essential. You don't want to get locked in 'TOO MUCH' to a particular vendor, strategy, technology, whatever" does not indicate a sea change in attitudes and practices by (new) Microsof, since the two words "too much" are very telling in that what Microsoft thinks is "too much" cab be and is significantly different from the rest of technology industry, particularly the Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) community and organizations to whom Microsoft remains extremelt antagonistic and predatory - willing to destroy.

A good command and understanding of the English language and subtle nuances of (double) speak is still required by readers of Microsoft propaganda.

The internet is less free than last year. Thanks a bunch, Snowden

W. Anderson

The pervasive and dominant practice in USA particularly of "shooting the messenger" without any intelligent, cohrent or factual addressing of "the messege" is alive and well in this article.

Such is the state of mentality in The USA that convoluted, non-sensical and wasteful time of such articles consume so much of technology discourse.

Docker part 4: Microsoft CAN'T ignore it. Aux armes, citoyens!

W. Anderson

It is quite probable that "any" Microsoft licensing or independent use of "Docker" technology will in the long run not be in compliance with the Docker APIs and protocols, and maybe even ignore and challenge the Docker Open Source Licensing model.

The Windows "Docker" technology is sure to subvert and crash any Linux Docker technology, een in a supposed "cooperative" Microsoft Azure Cloud environment, with the intention of pushing Linux VM clients over to Windows Server base.

This type subversive character is and has always been the mantra of Microsoft, whether Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer was at the helm. Whether such draconian and sabotage seeking personality will change under new stewardship is yet to be discovered.

Docker: Sorry, you're just going to have to learn about it. Today we begin

W. Anderson

Trevor Pott needs to clarify - technically - when he claims that Virtuozzo is the "best" containerization, unless he is referring just to it's working in Microsoft Windows environment (supposedly) better than others.

I have implemented FreeBSD Jails containerization for several years, in various configurations - especially with individual ip addresses and Networking setups - with excellent results. Experience with Solaris "Containers" have similar results.

Maybe Mr. Pott has little or no "real world" experience with high level containeriztion outside his Microsoft PC playground.

Windows 10: an improved Windows NT?

Technology / business experts in several countries have speculated that the 10 designation of "new" NT based Windows has a great deal to do with satisfying the Chinese government and markets - about 500 million users - that this is a non-NSA subverted Operating System - in contrast to banned Windows 8, that will live up to a credible level of reliability and security.

It will be interesting to see if the Windows 10 for Desktops and Tablets will share the substantially improved "ResFS" File System used in Servers, but totally improbable - technically and practically - for implementation in Windows phones, in publicized campaign of “One Windows”.

However the 'tested' inferiority of ResFS in comparison to ZFS and btrfs File Systems used in *NIX Operating Systems won't change the dynamic of Windows Server not being competitive or a "viable" challenge in overall Cloud Computing, Virtualization with Containerization, and Social Media/Enterprise infrastructure and Networking implementations worldwide.

Asians have already proven bigger in sales

While the Apple executive is correct in stating that the task for becoming the No.2 smartphone maker internatinally is very difficult, the reality dictates that Americans always think they are the center of the universe, and have denial of the fact that Samsung, as a Korean, Non-American company overshadows Apples sales worldwide.

This therefore at least allows that a Chinese firm, with a potential market of 2 billions plus customers in Asia alone would completely surpass Apple and every other American company in Mobile, Social Media and possibly e-Commerce marketshare,
