Scratching my head
"Whilst the ICO are neither for nor against the creation of a national identity number per se, we do advocate against the creeping use of such unique identifiers to the extent that they could become the national identity number by default."
And the material difference to us would be?
Sure, why teach em something that might prove useful.
Just about any language can be used to teach programming fundamentals, but leaving out C (but keeping Delphi?) seems about as practical as teaching general driving skills with the use of a tractor.
Should we be looking forward to a generation of VB-wielding engineers?
If I, hypothetically, were to hold up a sign in a public place saying Hitler sure was one evil MOFO then a Fuhrer fan club somewhere could successfully make a complaint under this same law?
I fully understand why laws like this should exist but this particular one is poorly worded, to say the least.
Great marketing idea
Really. I mean, totally brilliant. Hauling stuff to the moon costs x per pound, right?
And you can pack an awful lot of names into an itty bitty rom chip thats probably already part of some other kit going there anyway.
Which, as previously pointed out, may or may not even be as real an event as your payment for same. I'd prefer someone carve the names on a moon rock or something, thereby creating a bit of home-like graffiti at least.
Upwards and onwards, brave pioneers of the unknown! Dont forget your towels...
Vista just plain doesnt work
Case in point, I've just bought a new top-end laptop which came with Vista pre-installed. Even with 2.5gig of ram and a >2ghz processer it absolutely crawls. Sure it ooks nice and flash but the cool-looking new hourglass icon loses it's shine fast once you realise how much of it you're gonna see.
Long story short, I said **** this, formatted and put Windows "it just works" XP on. I try to ignore the gloating looks I'm getting from my Gentoo partition on the same machine.
Sad sad sad
Clueless, hopeless and genuinely very sad.
How are they ever going to get a handle on ANY internet-related issues if they understand less about it than the average 10 year old? Which clearly is the case.
Oh I know! Shove another oh, say, few hundred million into our preferred suppliers' mouths, they'll sort the internet for us!
