Energy-saving LEDs 'will not save energy', say boffins

tempemeaty
FAIL

Is somebody trying to keep CFLS? If so they failed.

Heh, if the argument against LEDs is true then it equally applies to CFLS which are similarly less power hungry than incandescents.

I chose the power saving LEDs thank you. ^.^

Google tests 'streaming' search engine

tempemeaty

Ok...well less fancy but it always seems to find what I want..

"ixquick" is one and their other is "startpage", www.startpage.com

It's the only one I know of that is also fighting the EU Parliament mandating data retention of users. ixquick and startpage just don't track you.

All your data are belong to us...faster than ever now.

Meh. So I guess this means they can now track you faster too. LOL!

I found a search engine that doesn't track users and it works. So meh Google is meh.

They can go play with themselves

The ability for those with some computer sophistication to circumvent draconian Gov rules does not give the Gov a pass on committing oppression against it's the people within it's boarders.

If the other corporations cave into this Gov behavior then those companies can go play with themselves. I will point it out at every opportunity and the fact we should do everything in our power to avoid those companies products. If they support such Gov behavior in other countries then those companies would also support our Gov doing the same to us right here at home.

Hotmail still not working? Use Chrome to fix it, says MS

tempemeaty
Big Brother

New kit or limited access for you

There is a pretty large number of computer users who can't buy new computers and run old/used ones. I've encountered the fact that all the new browsers scan for the OS type and will bail on the install on the older browsers leaving the users of these somewhat older computers up the creek without a paddle. Therefor creating web-mail that is only compatible with the latest browsers in the last 9-12 months are going to lock out a huge number of web surfers. It's sort of and elitism when you think about it. If you can't afford the latest kit of the year no email and limited surfing for you. This leaves the Internet for only the well to do. Good way to keep the advantages of the Internet out of the hands of those at the economic bottom of things and keep them at the economic bottom.

Yahoo! blames so-so revenues on 'sluggish' search

tempemeaty

Just thinking out loud...

Reading this and remembering Yahoo is going in for using the MS stuffage in place of their own got me thinking. Most the average every day non-techy people I know using Yahoo for email and searches do so to get away from or avoid using Microsoft's stuffage. I wonder how many do this over all and if the coming changes will result in further drops in usage of Yahoo over all.

Apple patent seeks to reinvent retail

tempemeaty
Big Brother

The other shoe drops...

First they want to GPS track you and let all their partners have the information. Now they want to incorporate reading and using tractable RFID into buying and selling. Consider other corporations want to use RFID in the tagging and tracking you I have to say Apple has come out with another piece of the puzzle in the overall larger plan for us. NO, I will not be tracked or be expected to use or carry tracking RFID chips on my person that can be read by multitudes of devices or be EXPECTED to carry and use such devices in order to read RFIDs to get prices on products or to buy them. I will NOT buy products that use this technology.

Android gaining on iPhone among developers

tempemeaty
Thumb Down

Android or IPhone4 Hmmm...

Neither.

I'd be daft to develop anything for a OS who's maker can just reach in at anytime and remove any application they want so Android's out as a choice. And the iPhone...weeellll...Apple's sharing user GPS locations rules out that as an option as well now that Apples practice of doing that has caught gov. attention for it's violations. I wouldn't want that liability issue coming back on me for supporting it. As they say...poop splatters...

Apple, another abusive big corporation for the trash heap...

I stopped using Microsoft's OS when I found out it had build in user data collection and MS admited to doing it after it was discovered. I avoid Google like the plague because of it's user tracking and all their shenanigans collecting wifi mac address plus passwords and such. As authorities around the world continue their abusive behaviors toward the populations everywhere this tracking tech in products shouldn't be tolerated.

I hope every shipment of these phones from China sinks in the ocean.

It was a great way to leverage w2k users out of that OS. Now the same with Win XP. MS needs your data for their Trusted Partners and Win XP just doesn't collect it like Vista and W7 does. Have fun with IE9 on your fully tracked and monitored OS.

China warns Google over uncensored search threat

tempemeaty
Big Brother

The hand off is the real game...

Prediction. The whole conflict has been a smokescreen. The real plan is for Google to hand over it's technology to the Chinese via a "Chinese Firm" so that the filtering can go forward without Google being looking dirty. End of the deal is that Google can claim they're not doing it and China keeps it's control over it's portion of the internet blocking, filtering and tracking of the internet and it's citizens who use it.

Maximum Exposure maximum loss.

It no longer matters what we think. Google wants to stay and continue to maximize the exposure to getting their technologies stolen. This problem will take care of itself. China will get all the relevant tech they need from Google and then make being in China difficult for them. Google will then find themselves competing against China and their own technology.

Yup the US is doomed to be the next third world if something about it's falling tech sector.

Mozilla becomes latest to dump Mac OS X 10.4 support

tempemeaty
Alert

MSTSD

This is the great "Meat Space vs Technology Space Discontinuity".

Compatibility loss from one version to the next of OSX comes so quickly now that it's becoming an issue. Real world users can't keep up and are beginning to fall off the cart. It's way worse than that now if you purchase software.

You have accumulated half a dozen aps on your OSX machine over the last year necessary to your project. Your project suddenly requires another app to finish things at this stage. You find your version of OSX is not supported now. In the full year you had YOUR machine a full version has come and gone. You have to buy a new machine to run the app your project needs to move toward completing but then your existing half dozen apps also don't run on that new machine. You can't afford to re-purchase them in versions that do. You realize you can't financially keep up with this rapid loss of backward compatibility with the rapid technology change. You either start looking for open source alternatives or give up.
