Microsoft erases Windows 8 optimism

That was my idea for Win7

I beta tested Win7 and worked primarily on the backwards compatibility issues. The test bench I ran Win7 Ultimate on would not even run Vista Home Basic. Before the RC came out I was running hardware, and some software (games mostly) that worked in Win 98.

The big problem with Vista was the lack of computability with hardware and software that worked on the XP machine just before they "upgraded" to Vista.

So yeah, backwards compatibility is a big issue with Windows users, both consumer and businesses. Would you want to have to purchase new printers, monitors, routers, switches, and production machines every time a new OS came out?

Not just the pirates!!!

Sorry Donn Bly, but I sell name brand computers and have seen the ones on display, right out of the HP, Compaq, Gateway, Lenovo, Toshiba desktops and laptops box promptly display the WGA

notification that they don't posses a "legal copy" of Windows.after the first time they "update".

So, having seen the problem with this little piece of crapware from Microsoft, I always recommend to every customer to set their automatic updates to "Let me choose" and not download anything with WGA in it.

Why not just repeal those silly laws that keep law abiding citizens from having guns, and arm the truck drivers with shotguns? Of course there would have to be training course in the use of the shotguns.

Class! To use this firearm in it's proper manner, wait until the criminal is within 20 feet, point shotgun at criminal as you would your finger, pull trigger. If criminal does not go down in a proper fashion (dead), point gun at criminal, pull trigger again.

Don't forget to take half Euro from criminal's pocket to pay for shells.

Doesn't work with new install

Just installed XP Pro on a new hard drive, tried to update the files, and Windows Update icon in Control Panel doesn't work, tried to go to Microsoft website to download the update software, no go-won't even download, tried going to Windows Update through Internet Explorer favorites, and IE freezes up.

So I guess that answers the question about the OEM install.
