What is WebAssembly? And can you really compile C/C++ to it? And it'll run in browsers? Allow us to explain in this gentle introduction

I hate to think what will happen when, not if, more and more sites start breaking without them, to the point it's either Wasm or bust. Will you just go, "Stop the Internet! I wanna get off!"?
