A friend of mine who requested his balance at a cash machine last week saw an effective date in the last century and was unable to withdraw cash. It was hard enough finding people to wrestle with COBOL 20 years ago, so presumably these things will become progressively harder to fix.
As for the Unix epoch issue, the increasing reliance on random packages from the Internet makes me wonder if in 18 years time there's even any point trying to find and fix the bugs. AI will, in any case, have conditioned us to non-deterministic systems that throw out bizarre results.
