I recall one of my colleagues (at a big 5 employer) telling me that a Euro-compliancy audit piece of work on a core bank system had been really easy because they discovered that every point where account calculations were done had already been replaced by calls to one standardised procedure. The reason? It had been done when the UK decimalised in 1971 and pounds, shillings and pence were replaced with pounds and pence.
