Do you want the severance they're offering and a good reference?

To soothe the self-respect aspect, you train them using the most jargon, speaking as softly as possible. Adopt a thick Scottish or Cockney accent if you can. Whatever might be the most inpeneratable to the replacement. Assume they are the trained professionals that their resume says they are so you are never fully explaining anything. If there is a manual, don't deviate from it to tell the new person how the system really works and what's changed in the 8 years since the manual was first written and never updated.
