Blame third parties

I love how the first thing BA consider doing is contacting Lufthansa and Amaedus to see if it's a problem with their systems. Sure, all airlines integrate with third parties but you can just imagine the people at the other end going... "No, no BA, it's *your* shitty old antiquated non-redundant poorly configured and not properly tested systems. Yet again".
