In my early days as a draughtsman for a turbine manufacturer, I was located in a drawing office on a mezzanine above the Development department shop floor. There was a huge twelve cylinder diesel engine in an adjacent lean-to in order to provide electrical power during the winter, because the site was very expensive to run from the incomer, which probably needed upgrading anyway. The toilets were on the mezzanine too, right up against the party wall for the lean-to, so if you went into a cubicle when the generator was running, the whole place was shaking and vibrating as if you were on a ship at sea.
