The entire narrative premise of La Dame aux Camelias is that a prostitute downs tools, as it were, once a month and signals her temporary unavailability by means of coloured flowers.

My assumption is that the original poster didn't realise how infelicitous it might be to liken a respected IT pioneer in the Netherlands to the character of Marguerite Gautier, which is why I didn't exercise a knee-jerk down-vote, but having brought it up as a subject, it's hardly then out of scope to refer to the precise plot in the context of an inanimate object.

If you object to the subject matter of the original literary work, then take it up with Dumas fils.
