If the OS doesn't support the hardware, what's the point of installing it in the first place ? As for coders whims, your proposition is to replace OS coders by firmware coders which is like shoveling the sh%&^t forward. All this driver mess is because hardware manufacturers jealously want to keep their products specifications secret and instead of allowing decent, professional software engineers to code the drivers, they come up with their own half-baked and insecure solutions. Like BIOS, UEFI is a valid proof of that.
