As a pedestrian you have just as much right to be on the road and under no obligation to be held up to keep traffic moving,

This is an interesting part of the UK highway code that I never really noticed when I was doing my test:

Give way to anyone still crossing after the signal for vehicles has changed to green. This advice applies to all crossings.

"Don't run people over" is hopefully obvious to everyone, but "give way" goes further. And while pedestrians have their own section of the code and aren't meant to start crossing on a red light, once they're there you are expected to give way.
