That doesn't mean there's no point in debating ethics, attempting to arrive at a compromise that's acceptable to the political power in a community, codifying it, and promulgating it through various institutions. That's what gives us a little thing called "civilization".
It's not pretty, it's not reliable, it requires constant maintenance, and it creates nearly as many problems as it solves. (Much like IT, in fact.) But most seem to feel it's better than the alternative.
